Virident tachIOn™ SSDs Power Highly Scalable MySQL Environments

Users Get up to 15 Times Performance Improvements with Existing MySQL Infrastructures

MySQL Conference 2011

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Virident, a leading provider of high-performance, enterprise-class PCI Express solid state storage solutions, announced today that its SSDs are now used in MySQL environments around the world, solving database scalability and performance challenges.

MySQL users have traditionally tried to address database scaling problems either by using complex operational techniques or adding expensive hardware. The Virident tachIOn™ features a two-tiered controller architecture that delivers sustained performance, which is hundreds of times faster than hard disk drives and several times faster than competing PCIe SSD products. This industry-leading performance removes I/O bottlenecks, allowing seamless database scaling while reducing both capital and operating expenses.

"Virident’s tachIOn is the only solid storage solution to deliver predictable, high-performance IOPS for our write-intensive workloads,” said Valtteri Karu, director of technical operations at Sulake Corporation, a Virident customer. "The tachIOn SSD not only delivers exceptional MySQL performance, but also scales as workloads increase. It sets a new standard for database throughput."

Data availability is a key requirement in business-critical MySQL deployments. The combination of Virident’s flash-aware RAID capability, advanced ECC, and dynamic global wear leveling ensures that data integrity is sustained over the life of the product, providing enterprise-class reliability for mission-critical and business-critical MySQL applications. The Virident low-power SSD devices come in a high-density, low-profile, PCIe-compliant form factor and are engineered to be deployed in all industry-standard servers.

“One of our core expertise is understanding and identifying database performance bottlenecks in MySQL. We have had extensive experience testing and benchmarking the Virident tachIOn PCIe solid state storage product,” said Vadim Tkachenko, CTO, Percona Inc. “All our tests have shown that tachIOn not only delivers superior performance, two to three times over other PCIe SSD products, but also is able to sustain this performance advantage under extreme workloads. With Virident tachIOn, you can consolidate 5-15 servers into a single server, providing significant TCO savings.”

The company announced last week that it could achieve 1 million IOPS with only two tachIOn cards, a breakthrough level of performance and efficiency for data-intensive workloads such as those in database environments.

Virident will showcase the Virident tachIOn SSDs at the O’Reilly MySQL Conference and Expo, booth #610, taking place on April 11 through 14, 2011.
