Quintiles Central Laboratory Awarded Accreditation to the International Standard for Quality Management

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--()--Quintiles today announced that its laboratory in Marietta, Ga., has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) 15189SM Accreditation Program. The Quintiles lab is one of only of a limited number of central labs in the U.S. to meet the rigorous requirements for medical laboratory quality and competence established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

“Quintiles has an unwavering commitment to deliver high quality, globally harmonized test results that help our biopharma customers drive decision-making in the New Health,” said Thomas Wollman, Senior Vice President, Quintiles Global Central Laboratories. “Quintiles has the largest CAP-accredited central laboratory network in the world, and the CAP 15189 Accreditation Program is a natural extension of our quality program. Our goal is to have every lab in our network accredited to this international quality standard.”

“Although the 15189 Standard is not currently mandated in the United States, CAP believes that laboratories that strive to be in the top tenth percentile in quality will benefit from seeking this standard and the College is proud to make it available to American laboratories,” said Cordelia Sever, MD, FCAP, former chair of the CAP 15189 Committee.

With CAP 15189 accreditation, Quintiles has achieved a best practices standard in lab-related quality management systems, and is well-positioned to respond to the changing healthcare environment and demonstrate measurable quality to customers. CAP 15189 is a voluntary, non-regulatory accreditation to the ISO 15189:2007 Standard, which utilizes specific criteria, procedures and processes to determine laboratory technical competence. The program complements CAP accreditation and other quality systems by optimizing processes, strengthening quality standards, reducing institutional errors and risks and controlling costs.

Quintiles supports global and regional trials in almost every country in the world with wholly owned facilities in the U.S., Europe, South Africa, India, China, Singapore and Japan, and a tightly coordinated network of affiliate laboratories in Argentina and Brazil. All Quintiles laboratories operate with uniform instrumentation and standard operating procedures, delivering high quality, harmonized data.
