Louisa Matthews and Jason Schumacher to Speak at Women’s Energy Network – North Texas Chapter April 2015 Luncheon Meetings in Fort Worth and Dallas

DALLAS--()--Louisa B. Matthews, Senior Manager – Multistate Tax Service for Deloitte Tax LLP will be the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting of the Women’s Energy Network (WEN) – North Texas Chapter on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Fort Worth Petroleum Club, 777 Main Street #4000. Jason A. Schumacher, Partner in the Dallas and Houston offices of Locke Lord LLP, will be the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting of WEN on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Dallas Petroleum Club, 2200 Ross Avenue. Registration for both events will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the luncheon from noon-1:00 p.m.

Ms. Matthews will present a discussion titled, “Marcellus Shale Region Indirect Tax Update.” Her presentation will address the current indirect tax landscape in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, as well as proposed legislative changes in Pennsylvania. A question-and-answer session will follow her presentation.

Ms. Matthews is a Senior Manager in Deloitte Tax’s Multistate Tax Services Practice. She currently leads the Sales & Use Tax Practice for the Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Upstate New York Ohio areas while providing sales and use tax expertise to national clients within the Energy industry. Ms. Matthews has more than 27 years of sales and use tax experience, including managerial roles within large multi-state corporations in the energy, manufacturing, and hospitality industries. Prior to joining Deloitte Tax, she spent seven years managing the Non-Income Taxes for a large integrated energy company located in the mid-Atlantic region. Ms. Matthew’s multi-state experience includes providing services and appeal representation related to audit defense, transaction analysis and planning, refund reviews, simplified rate reporting (managed compliance agreements), multistate compliance and compliance system reviews, tax manual development, nexus reviews, and due diligence reviews. She has also served as an instructor providing sales and use tax training to clients and firm personnel.

Ms. Matthews received her Bachelor of Science in Finance from The Pennsylvania State University and her Master of Science in Taxation from Robert Morris University. She is a Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI – Sales and Use Tax) and serves as the 2015 vice-chair of the Marcellus Shale Coalition Tax and Fee Committee. She is also an active member of the Women’s Energy Network and several local professional tax organizations in the Pittsburgh area.

Schumacher is a partner in the Dallas and Houston offices of Locke Lord LLP. He is a major deal attorney, where his practice focuses on serving clients in the energy industry and the oil and gas sector. He has vast experience in mergers, stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures, joint development projects, operational affairs, project development for energy facilities and financing arrangements for energy and oil and gas companies. His clients include private and publicly-traded U.S. and Chinese companies, energy holding companies and oil and gas service companies, as well as mineral interest owners, lenders, private equity firms and other financial institutions. Schumacher has documented and closed transactions totaling billions of U.S. dollars and has documented joint venture arrangements and energy facility projects involving committed aggregate expenditures in the billions. Clients call on him frequently when they are involved in disputes, litigation, arbitrations and mediations involving questions pertaining to energy and oil and gas holdings and operational disputes.

Schumacher is a prolific presenter and writer in the oil and gas industry, speaking and publishing in both US and globally-focused events and publications. He is heavily involved in the Energy Section of the Dallas Bar Association, serving as its chair in 2012. He also serves on the board of the Texas Energy Council and was elected its president for 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.
