Lou Ferrigno and Crucial.com Team Up To Find the Nation's Most Formidable Computer Frustration "Roar"

BOISE, Idaho--()--After a summerlong contest that sought the most spine-tingling, fearsome roar resulting from severe bouts of computer-induced frustration, Crucial.com and contest partner, Lou Ferrigno, have named Isaac Barker of Willard, Utah as the grand prize winner of its “Get Tough On Computers, Show Us Your Roar contest.

Isaac’s video entry depicting the hair-raising, uncontrollable “Roar” resulting from the frustration of using a slow and unreliable computer was deemed worthy of the $5,000 grand prize by Crucial.com judges as well as by tough guy, Lou Ferrigno.

"I'm thrilled and surprised to take the top prize and am thankful for Crucial.com and Lou Ferrigno for the opportunity to express my frustration with computer performance," said Barker. "My friends Michael Corbett and Scott Stowers helped make the video a success and this amazing $5,000 prize will help us to build a powerful computer that performs well enough to meet our video editing needs."

Beginning in June, Crucial.com teamed up with legendary tough guy Lou Ferrigno to invite all frustrated computer users to visit ToughOnComputers.com and submit a short video showing their most fearsome, frustration-filled, computer-induced roar. Each video was evaluated according to a variety of factors including volume, enthusiasm, perceived distress, frustration, anxiety, irritation, and overall hopelessness by the contest judges. The contest aimed to shed more light on the growing problem of computer-induced rage and encouraged Americans to get a little tougher on their computers, starting with a do-it-yourself memory upgrade from Crucial.com.

“Having experienced the firsthand frustrations of using an underperforming computer, I can relate to Isaac’s intense feelings and I am not ashamed to admit that I have had my share of soul-shattering, hand-clenching roars of frustration in front of my computer,” said Lou Ferrigno. “It is amazing how even the toughest person can be brought to their knees when confronted with computer problems.”

The contest was punctuated by a nationwide online survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Crucial.com revealing that 36% of U.S. adults that have experienced computer problems in the past six months, admit to verbal or physical abuse of their slow and underperforming computers.

“The survey results coupled with all the roaring videos that entered the contest are indicative as to just how desperate and hopeless computers can make us feel when they underperform,” said Roddy McLean, Crucial.com e-Commerce Marketing Manager. “People need to realize that they do not need to be bullied by their rogue computers and that there are a number of steps that one can take to end the cycle of frustration, beginning with a cost-effective do-it-yourself memory upgrade.”

In addition to the grand prize, two runners-up each received a complimentary computer memory upgrade courtesy of Crucial.com.
