CINCINNATI--()--In 1963, Vidal Sassoon’s iconic bob and five-point cut set a new standard in hairdressing, igniting a movement of women worldwide to emulate the iconic look. Fifty years later, Vidal Sassoon Pro Series is further celebrating this milestone anniversary and the genius of the bob’s design by launching the “Show Your Genius” Facebook contest, asking women to flaunt their hair genius for a chance to win $1,000 among other prizes.

To kick off the contest, Vidal Sassoon Pro Series collaborated with Sassoon Salon New York Uptown on June 4th and offered haircuts at the 1963 price of just $7 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic bob haircut. After getting the hands-on help of Sassoon professionals, attendees used Facebook to submit their new look for a chance to win.

Actress Jaime King joined the event and was the first to debut her new Sassoon-inspired look. The look was selected by Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Facebook fans who voted on various styles prior to the event. Fashion and celebrity hairstylist and Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Ambassador, Ben Skervin created Jaime King’s winning look – the faux bob. The faux bob is often worn by celebrities who are inspired by the look Vidal Sassoon created 50 years ago.

“As someone who trained at Vidal Sassoon, the bob is a very important haircut to me,” says Skervin, who trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in London. “It was the second haircut that I ever learned to do. The line had to be so sharp – it took quite a few months to master.”

Vidal Sassoon Pro Series will continue to celebrate hair genius with the “Show Your Genius” Facebook contest by inviting fans to share a “selfie” of their best hairstyle. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000, a year’s supply of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products and vintage 1960s earrings to complete the perfect head-to-toe look. Other participants will be entered to win Vidal Sassoon Pro Series products and additional prizes. To participate, simply upload an image to the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Facebook page for your chance to win. Fans can submit their best hairstyle from now until June 18, 2013, and will then have the opportunity to vote on the top looks. Additional prizes will be distributed throughout the contest for participating and voting.
