Honoree recognized as role model for girls and young women

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine--()--WEX Inc. (NYSE: WXS), a leading international provider of physical, digital and virtual corporate card payment solutions, today announced that its president of The Americas, Melissa Smith, was named the 2013 “Woman of Distinction” by Girl Scouts of Maine. Each year, the award honors one woman in Maine for her strong leadership success, commitment to the local community and portrayal as an exemplary role model for girls and young women.

The 16th annual “Woman of Distinction” award is presented by Girl Scouts of Maine, a statewide non-profit organization promoting the personal development of local girls, to honor a Maine woman who has distinguished herself as an outstanding member of her community through individual excellence and a high level of achievement. Past recipients of the award include Senator Olympia Snowe and Olympic Gold Medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson.

Smith currently serves on the Center for Grieving Children's board of directors, is a co-founder of the Executive Women's Forum, volunteers for the Maine Cancer Foundation's Tri for a Cure, and helped to create sheJAMs, an organization bringing together women of all ages and abilities who enjoy being active. In August of this year, Smith was selected by Mainebiz as one of its “2012 Women to Watch.”
