SAN FRANCISCO--()--Mayor Edwin Lee honored the Crown Prince of Luxembourg in a special July 13 ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the Luxembourg Consulate’s opening in San Francisco.

The Crown Prince and Jeannot Krecké, Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade, were joined by Mayor Lee and Luxembourg Consul-General Georges Schmit in the Consulate offices at One Sansome Street for the official ceremony. Established in 1986, the consulate is one of two for Luxembourg in the United States, along with the New York City consulate general on Beekman Place in mid-town Manhattan. The offices in San Francisco and New York also serve as regional headquarters for the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in the United States.

“As one of the original founders of the European Union and as a pivotal leader in EU affairs for more than 50 years, we are delighted to honor Luxembourg today for its long and welcome presence in San Francisco,” said the Mayor. “We welcome the Crown Prince of Luxembourg and the Government delegation to our city and anticipate a continued and prosperous relationship with Luxembourg.”

Mayor Lee presented the Crown Prince with a proclamation to mark the visit and celebrate the 25th anniversary by declaring July 13, 2011 as “Consulate General of Luxembourg Day in San Francisco.” As part of the gift exchange, the Mayor presented the Crown Prince with a portfolio of pre-1906 earthquake images of San Francisco.

Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Jeannot Krecké acknowledged “increasingly intense business relations between Luxembourg and the Bay Area in ICT, e-commerce and health technologies,” and pledged “to extend a business–friendly welcome and to ensure an effective work environment to Bay Area investors in Luxembourg.”

The ceremony concluded with the presentation by the Crown Prince to the City of a copper etched print by Luxembourg-born and current Bay Area resident, scientist and artist Philippe Emmanuel Lamesch. The print, entitled, “The Gate,” symbolizes the international diversity of Luxembourg and San Francisco and their role as a welcoming gateway in opening new opportunities for their residents and businesses.
