AppDNA Introduces AppTitude 2.6, Enhances Leading Application Compatibility Testing Solution

Innovative Testing Solution Help Enterprises Assess the Impact Of Changes to Their Entire Application Portfolios on Microsoft Platforms

CHICAGO--()--AppDNA, the worldwide leader in application compatibility testing for Microsoft environments, today announced the newest version of its application compatibility testing product, AppTitude 2.6. AppTitude is the industrys first application compatibility testing software that can provide a rapid assessment of 100 percent of an organizations applications running on Microsoft platforms including Windows Vista and XP, and Microsoft App-V (formerly SoftGrid). AppTitude helps enterprises improve their strategic IT investments and long-term planning by delivering comprehensive application insight in advance of making changes to application environments. It addresses three main areas that are critical for strategic software deployment: application compatibility and integration; OS migration and upgrades; and assessment of virtualization options.

AppTitude 2.6 features new functionality including a Quick Start Report that delivers a high-level overview of application compatibility issues using a Red-Yellow-Green traffic light-type summary status; a new Overview Report that enables organizations to view an applications status across all Microsoft platforms; a completely re-architected business layer to support customers with the largest application portfolios; and a Restore feature that makes the product more resilient by enabling users to return to a previous state following any interruption. In addition there are routine maintenance updates.

Manual testing of enterprise portfolios with hundreds of applications is often so difficult and expensive that it would take months or years to complete. As a result, many organizations never even attempt to test all of their applications before rolling out a new OS or upgrade.

AppTitude provides comprehensive and quick insight into an entire application portfolio of hundreds or even thousands of applications, including custom and internally developed applications. After automatically extracting and storing key installation and runtime data from an entire application portfolio, it creates a comprehensive profile of the application DNA of an enterprise. AppTitude then interrogates the DNA data to assess application compatibility for planned changes in a fraction of the time required using costly and laborious manual testing.

No other testing tool on the market today can automatically collect an organizations application metadata for its entire application portfolio including both installation and runtime data and rapidly assess the compatibility status and make recommendations for remediation of issues, said Mike Welling, CEO of AppDNA. By quickly reporting the impact details IT needs to know before making a change to the application environment, AppTitude dramatically reduces the time, cost and risks of OS migration (such as Vista), software upgrades or any changes under consideration.

AppTitude displays the results of its application DNA interrogation via a visual status dashboard. A green, yellow or red light indicates whether an application will migrate without problems, whether it will have some problems, or whether it will not migrate effectively. In addition, AppTitude provides a combination of automatic fixes (when available) and remediation advice to help the IT team correct the issues and accurately scope and plan remediation steps.

New Features in AppTitude 2.6

  • Quick Start Report This new report serves as an entry point to AppTitude, providing a high-level overview of the application portfolios compatibility issues using a Red-Yellow-Green traffic light visual summary status.
  • Overview Report The Overview Report enables customers to view the status of an application across Microsoft Vista, Vista SP1, and Microsoft App-V (formerly SoftGrid) for the technologies they have licensed within AppTitude.
  • Scale and Optimization The business layer has been re-architected to enhance AppTitudes scaling to support the largest customer application portfolios in all phases including importing, analysis and reporting.
  • Forward Button A new forward button makes it easier to work within AppTitude without having to re-run reports.
  • Multi-user This supports users logging in with different rights and permissions.
  • Restore Functionality The Restore functionality adds an incremental level of resilience and promotes failure persistent data within the product by preserving the state of the import list between runs. Now if the import process is interrupted, once the interruption is resolved the import will continue where it left off.
  • Import List The Import List feature enables customers to set up a list of applications, in a standard CSV file, in advance of importing into AppTitude. This pre-defined list can then be re-used in multiple environments.
  • Improved Usability Usability has been enhanced with the addition of several new icons throughout AppTitude that provide customers with easier context awareness and knowledge of what functionality they have access to. The new icons also highlight useful features (such as the ability to export reports to Excel).

Pricing and Availability

AppTitude 2.6 is available immediately from AppDNA. Pricing varies based on configuration, ranging from $5,000 for a typical pilot installation to a starting range of $50,000 for enterprise-wide deployments.
