BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DataPoint, Inc., a Baltimore-based ISP and carrier-class data center serving commercial customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, has acquired Charm Net, a well-known Internet services and data center provider to the Baltimore and Washington metro areas.
This is the second in a string of regional acquisitions completed by DataPoint and its parent companies, Continental Broadband and Landmark Communications. Coupled with its move into the Tide Point campus and acquisition of Velocity Server last year this acquisition well-positions DataPoint to serve as the area’s strongest and most reliable Internet service provider. DataPoint now boasts a customer base of over 1,500 business customers in the region.
“The increased size of our network footprint, customer base and knowledgeable staff are all terrific new assets for our growing organization,” explains Carter Smith, General Manager at DataPoint. “We intend to leverage these new resources to further improve the quality and scope of Internet services available to everyone in the Mid-Atlantic region.”
Continental Broadband CEO Charlie Watkins said the commitment is one shared by both DataPoint and its parent company. “Strengthening DataPoint through acquisition is another step by Continental Broadband to build a reliable network for businesses to accompany our best-in-class data center and managed services capabilities in Maryland. It’s also part of a broader plan to strengthen our business units by adding valuable cross-functionality that benefits all of our customers across the country.”
Long known as a strong local alternative to national Internet providers, Charm Net has been serving Baltimore’s business community for over 13 years. “We liked the idea of working with DataPoint because of their status as an independent ISP, their focus on customer service and their innovative vision,” said Erik Monti, CEO and a founding partner of Charm Net. Following the acquisition, Monti will be moving on to pursue a new open-source ASP-based business.
