Netafim USA Marks Major Recycling Milestone With Extension of Grower Compensation Program And Higher Reimbursement Rates
The Industry’s Only Dripline Manufacturer to Offer Free Recycling Service Is Now Paying California Growers up to $0.08 per Pound for Their Used Irrigation Tubing Until the End of 2014
FRESNO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Renewing its commitment to sustainable irrigation solutions, the pioneer of drip irrigation, Netafim USA, announced today that the deadline for its Recycling Grower Compensation Program has been extended to December 31, 2014. Netafim USA has also increased the compensation rate for its product credit voucher from $0.07 per pound to $0.08 per pound. The exclusive program, offering free pick up and compensation in exchange for used irrigation tubing from qualifying California growers, has been responsible for diverting over 30 million pounds of irrigation tubing from landfills since 2007.
“With over 100 million pounds of drip irrigation plastics being used in agricultural applications, Netafim USA is the only drip irrigation manufacturer with its own facility specifically focused on lessening the impact of discarded irrigation tubing on the environment”
Located in Fowler, California, the Netafim Recycling Facility collects and recycles used polyethylene irrigation tubing/hose and tape from agricultural applications at no cost to the grower. As the only manufacturer that also pays growers for their used tubing, once the material is collected, growers are provided with either a cash payment ($0.04 per pound), or a product credit voucher ($0.08/pound) that can be applied towards the future purchase of any Netafim drip irrigation products.
“Drip irrigation is the pinnacle of irrigation efficiency and more and more growers are adopting drip as a better solution for increasing yields while reducing their operating costs through decreased labor, energy and water use,” said Todd Rinkenberger, Western Regional Sales Manager for Netafim USA. “It’s a win for everyone as the program helps reduce waste from landfills by up to 5,000,000 pounds per year, and helps farmers comply with governmental regulations regarding tubing disposal, while getting paid to do it.”
Netafim USA monitors the entire recycling process – from testing and evaluating used tubing in the field to washing, grinding and re-pelletizing. The material is used to produce a recycled resin that is then used in mining and landscape dripline products, where recycled materials are a critical requirement for a number of sustainable building initiatives. The recycled resin also gets used in industrial products such as plastic pallets.
“With over 100 million pounds of drip irrigation plastics being used in agricultural applications, Netafim USA is the only drip irrigation manufacturer with its own facility specifically focused on lessening the impact of discarded irrigation tubing on the environment,” added Rinkenberger.
Free pick up service is available in most California counties and can be scheduled by visiting www.NetafimRecycling.com or by calling (559) 246-8264.
