“Pestaurant on Pennsy” Bites Back at Hunger with Donation to DC Central Kitchen
—Ehrlich Pest Control donates $6,015 to DC charity from its June 4 event—
READING, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ehrlich Pest Control announces today that it has donated $6,015 to DC Central Kitchen as a result of the public’s participation in “Pestaurant on Pennsy,” held June 4 at the Occidental Grill in Washington, D.C. Ehrlich donated $5 per person who tried the edible insects at Pestaurant and $20 per person for those who participated in a cricket eating contest. Approximately 1,000 people visited “Pestaurant on Pennsy,” designed to raise awareness about pest control and giving the public an opportunity to bite back at bugs and support DC Central Kitchen.
“We are grateful to Ehrlich Pest Control for not only providing a unique and fun event for the public, but also offering to tie their event to our mission of combatting hunger and creating opportunity for low-income and at-risk individuals and families in Washington”
“We are grateful to Ehrlich Pest Control for not only providing a unique and fun event for the public, but also offering to tie their event to our mission of combatting hunger and creating opportunity for low-income and at-risk individuals and families in Washington,” said Alexander Moore, director of development for DC Central Kitchen. “Pestaurant was clearly a win-win for all those involved, but mostly the public, who had a great time and were able to directly support DC Central Kitchen. Ehrlich’s commitment to us and the community is genuinely appreciated by all of our staff and constituents.”
“Pestaurant on Pennsy” was part of the global Pestaurant Day sponsored by Ehrlich’s parent company, Rentokil, the world’s largest commercial pest control company, based in the United Kingdom. Pestaurant was held in 12 countries around the globe and created awareness about pest control, edible insects and insects as an alternative source of protein-laden food. The donation to D.C. Central Kitchen was made privately on June 26 at the organization’s headquarters in Washington.
“While pest control is a serious business, we were happy to conduct Pestaurant where everyone had a bit of fun and Ehrlich was able to generate a sizable donation to a local organization that provides such an important service to this community,” said John Myers, President and CEO of Rentokil – North America.
