UrbanSitter Receives $200k from A-Grade Investments
Babysitter marketplace receives funding from same VC firm that backed Airbnb, Spotify, Uber and Shazam
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UrbanSitter, an online and mobile service for parents and sitters to connect through people they know, has closed $200k from Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary's A-Grade Investments. A-Grade Investments finances startups that alter how consumers share information and was drawn to UrbanSitter’s disruptive social marketplace and emphasis on trust.
“The A-Grade Investments team clearly has an eye for disruptive technology. We’re excited to collaborate with them and apply their insights and ideas to our product development and marketing efforts”
“We look for companies that are solving everyday challenges in the most efficient and frictionless ways,” said Ashton Kutcher, A-Grade Investments. “To parents, nothing is more important than finding the right childcare provider. UrbanSitter has not only built a product based on convenience and simplicity, it has parlayed social trust into commerce in a way that hasn’t been done in the childcare space.”
UrbanSitter fosters trust by showing both parent and sitter members how they are connected to one another by leveraging Facebook Connect. Parents can view each sitter’s reviews, skills and certifications, experience, educational background, response time and number of repeat families. Profile pictures and video give another three-dimensional layer of information about sitters, while availability, hourly rates and typical response times are also outlined. In addition, UrbanSitter facilitates the booking in real-time and the payment.
“The A-Grade Investments team clearly has an eye for disruptive technology. We’re excited to collaborate with them and apply their insights and ideas to our product development and marketing efforts,” said Lynn Perkins, CEO, UrbanSitter.
This fresh capital comes on the heels of UrbanSitter’s recent $15M Series B round and brings the company’s total funding to $22.95M.
An online and mobile service for parents and sitters to connect through people they know, UrbanSitter makes booking a trusted babysitter as easy as booking dinner reservations. The site enables parents to search, book and review trusted sitters within minutes.
Headquartered in San Francisco, UrbanSitter was founded by a group of Internet veterans who wanted to use technology to power a faster, more personal babysitting service. The company is backed by Canaan Partners, DBL Investors, First Round Capital, Match Group, a division of IAC, Menlo Ventures, Rustic Canyon, Aspect Ventures, and several angel investors.
