IVE’s GAEUL to Host New Documentary as AI Avatar from Contents Lab HU, Targeting the Chinese-Language Market

SEOUL, South Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Contents Lab HU, a South Korean content startup founded just a year ago, has combined AI technology with broadcast production experience to launch The Untold. The new-format documentary is hosted by the AI avatar of an active K-pop idol—a first for Korean television. The program airs on South Korea's ENA channel on November 22 and 29.

Under an official contract with Contents Lab HU, IVE's agency STARSHIP Entertainment authorized the AI recreation of member GAEUL's voice and likeness exclusively for The Untold, produced by Contents Lab HU. Her avatar goes beyond traditional narration, appearing on screen like a cast member inside live-action footage. The program blends live-action and AI-generated visuals, with a Chinese-subtitled version produced simultaneously.

Contents Lab HU's core strength lies in recreating people with AI under official authorization and seamlessly integrating AI characters into live-action footage with broadcast-level production skills. The company has also built its own AI short-drama pipeline that automatically converts a script into a first-cut edit—generating a 90-second episode in approximately 30 minutes, after which a professional team refines the visuals and storytelling.

Founder and CEO Kang Yu-kyung spent 18 years as a Korean broadcast writer, earning a Baeksang Arts Award for her work, and wrote and directed the AI short film The Last EDEN, which won seven awards at international film festivals. A former exchange student at Tsinghua University in Beijing, she works directly with Chinese-speaking partners in fluent Mandarin and will visit Taiwan during the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF).
