New KLAS Research Report Shows Clinical and Financial Impact of Ambience Healthcare at Memorial Hermann
ROI validation identifies approximately $37,500 in additional annual productivity per emergency department physician
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ambience Healthcare today announced the publication of a new KLAS Research ROI validation report examining the clinical and financial impact of its work with Memorial Hermann Health System.
The report, Ambience Healthcare ROI Validations 2026: Reducing Documentation Burden to Improve Clinician Experience & Performance, evaluates how Ambience’s AI platform contributed to improvements in emergency department clinical and operational performance.
The findings highlight measurable outcomes in the Memorial Hermann Health System Emergency Department:
- Approximately $37,500 in additional annual productivity per emergency department physician, associated with improvements in productivity, documentation efficiency, and coding performance.
- A 1.3% increase in work RVUs per encounter, reflecting more accurate capture of physician work.
- 1.7 additional patient visits per physician during a 10-hour emergency department shift compared to non-users, demonstrating increased capacity to deliver care.
Following a 15-month pilot involving about 100 emergency department physicians, Memorial Hermann expanded Ambience to more than 560 clinicians across ambulatory care and emergency medicine. The report examines productivity and documentation outcomes measured during the pilot.
Beyond these outcomes, emergency department physicians using Ambience reported a Net Promoter Score of 78, based on 40 survey responses. Clinician feedback also indicated reduced documentation burden, with physicians able to complete more documentation during patient encounters rather than after hours.
In emergency departments, physicians must make complex decisions and accurately document care under significant time pressure. Memorial Hermann partnered with Ambience Healthcare to introduce AI-supported documentation into these workflows, helping physicians produce more complete records while better capturing the complexity of care delivered.
“The best ideas for improving healthcare come from listening to the people delivering it every day," said Christopher Langan, MD, CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System Physician Organization. "Our emergency department physicians make complex decisions under enormous time pressure, and we wanted to find better ways to support their work. These findings reflect our team's commitment to improving clinical documentation, measuring the impact, and making sure the technology delivers meaningful value for our physicians and the patients they care for.”
“Health systems want AI that makes a meaningful difference in clinicians' daily work and delivers results they can measure,” said Michael Han, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Ambience Healthcare. “Memorial Hermann's experience demonstrates the opportunity to improve documentation workflows while helping organizations more accurately capture the complexity of care their physicians deliver. We're proud to support their team and grateful for their commitment to evaluating the impact.”
To create the report, KLAS conducted in-depth interviews with Memorial Hermann stakeholders to examine the outcomes achieved and how they were measured. Memorial Hermann used clinician surveys, operational data, and independent billing data to evaluate the impact of Ambience, comparing physicians using Ambience with non-users and those using human scribes.
