VanEck Launches EM Focus Inflation Bond ETF (EMIL), Targeting Higher Real Yield Beyond U.S. TIPS

EMIL offers investors real yield from inflation-linked government bonds from emerging markets and outside the U.S.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--VanEck today announced the launch of the VanEck EM Focus Inflation Bond ETF (NYSE Arca: EMIL), designed to give investors access to inflation-linked government bonds from outside the U.S., with a focus on emerging markets (EM), seeking to provide higher inflation-protected yield versus U.S. Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS).

Why EMIL and EM-focused inflation-linked government bonds:

  • Rising inflationary pressures globally, driven by ongoing fiscal expansion in developed markets, geopolitical conflict, and extreme weather, among other factors, are pushing investors to rethink traditional inflation protection.
  • Inflation linked bonds adjust their principal in line with inflation, which results in higher coupons and preservation of purchasing power over time in periods of inflation.
  • As of September 30, 2026, emerging markets inflation-linked bonds offered more than twice the real yield of U.S. TIPS.*

“Inflation has been a global phenomenon driven by structural trends, and for many investors U.S. TIPS are only part of the answer to hedge this risk,” said William Sokol, Director of Product Management at VanEck. “Emerging markets have historically offered significantly higher real yields than U.S. TIPS, and we believe this is structural and will persist. EMIL allows investors to generate attractive inflation-adjusted income in their bond portfolios.”

EMIL seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the FTSE Emerging Markets Focused International Inflation-Linked Securities Index. The index comprises fixed-rate inflation-linked bonds issued by non-U.S. sovereigns and requires at least 65% of its weight to be in emerging markets. Issuers must meet a minimum credit rating of CCC, defaulted bonds are excluded, and the index rebalances monthly. EMIL has a gross expense ratio of 0.30% and intends to pay distributions monthly.

VanEck’s investment philosophy is to identify the 10-year macro trends reshaping global markets to give investors access to differentiated, high-conviction investment opportunities. EMIL joins the firm’s established suite of EM bond funds, which includes the VanEck J.P. Morgan EM Local Currency Bond ETF (EMLC) and the actively managed VanEck Emerging Markets Bond ETF (EMBX), building on over 20 years of experience investing in EM debt. Alongside VanEck’s real assets solutions like VanEck Real Assets ETF (RAAX), EMIL provides investors an income-focused approach for hedging inflation.
