Goodwin Launches AI Governance Program to Help Companies Accelerate AI Adoption

Legal tech offering puts the firm’s judgment and breadth of expertise at the fingertips of companies, boards, and private equity sponsors

NEW YORK & LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global law firm Goodwin today announced Goodwin AI Governance, a multi-pronged program that supports organizations working to govern AI use across the business, adopt it faster, and stay current as technology and regulation rapidly change.

AI is outpacing governance, and many organizations end up exposed to risk, or needing a separate review for every new tool. According to Deloitte’s 2026 State of AI study, 74% of organizations plan to deploy AI agents within the next two years, but only 21% have a mature governance model for them. Goodwin AI Governance is designed to address these gaps.

Combining the judgment of Goodwin’s industry-immersed lawyers, bespoke implementation, and ongoing maintenance as the law changes and business evolves, the program has three connected components:

  • Health Check: Complimentary assessment with a Goodwin lawyer to identify AI governance gaps
  • Readiness: Comprehensive governance materials tailored to business, sector, and AI use — available as modules or as a full suite
  • AI Decision Desk: Annual subscription that provides clear legal answers and real-time monitoring of AI regulation, enforcement, and market practice, with prompts to update existing policies

Built through close collaboration between the firm’s legal and AI product teams, the AI Governance program pairs experienced Goodwin lawyers with technology built to make their expertise available the moment a question comes up. Amid surging demand, the service has already been adopted by a wide range of clients across industries.

“Companies slow down on AI because the question in front of them isn’t covered by the rules, and nobody wants to be the one who guessed,” said Gary Sangha, Director of Product AI and Platforms at Goodwin, who recently joined the firm after founding legal technology companies Intelligize and LexCheck. “We designed Goodwin AI Governance so routine uses keep moving under current guidance, the exceptions get a clear legal answer from a Goodwin lawyer, and those answers become the rules for next time.”

“Companies want to adopt AI quickly, and the teams responsible for managing risk don’t want to be the obstacle,” said Kaitlin Betancourt, Co-Chair of Goodwin’s AI practice. “Few legal departments have deep AI expertise in-house and they’re hungry for sound judgment from people who understand their business. At Goodwin, that’s exactly what you get.”

The offering includes tailored applications for private equity and venture capital portfolios as well as for boards, where governance questions differ from those facing a single operating company.

For boards, the program addresses directors’ use of AI and oversight of company AI use, including accountability, reporting, and escalation. For private equity sponsors, Goodwin helps establish a consistent portfolio baseline while accounting for differences in individual companies’ AI use, sector, and jurisdiction.

Goodwin’s AI practice advises companies, startups, and investors on AI governance, intellectual property, and data and cybersecurity risk. Inside the firm, Goodwin is redesigning how legal work gets done, anchored by its Regina OS proprietary platform. The firm is building the next operating model for legal services: one designed by its lawyers, powered by technology, and focused on better client outcomes.
