Punch Raises $2 Million to Expand Construction Intelligence Platform
AI-powered platform connects the field and office, turning spoken job site updates into documentation and action that keeps projects moving
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Punch, an Atlanta-based construction intelligence platform, has raised $2 million from returning investor Gutter Capital. Punch connects superintendents, project managers, and accounting so information from the jobsite can populate reports and financial documents such as purchase orders, providing real-time insight into project activities and costs.
A superintendent can talk to the Punch app on their phone, send a photo or forward an email to Punch. Punch uses that information and the company’s rules to prepare a daily report, flag a delay or create a follow-up task. A material request can become a purchase order using the company’s supplier pricing and approval process. The goal is to move work forward without making the field and office repeatedly enter the same information.
Punch works alongside contractors’ estimating and accounting systems. Teams can start with daily reports, purchasing or invoice review and expand into other workflows over time.
“I spent years managing construction projects, and I know how much of the day can disappear into paperwork,” said Taylor Sandusky, founder of Punch. “The people running these jobs already know what happened and what needs to happen next. They should be able to say it once and have that information move the work forward. That’s what we’re building with Punch.”
Early customer companies helped shape Punch around the work they do every day. Several existing customers have also invested in the company, alongside technology angels.
Dustin Gibbs, general superintendent at Piedmont Drywall, headquartered in Atlanta, reports reducing the time needed to complete a daily report from 30 minutes to three minutes. Across daily reporting, material orders and payroll, he estimates Punch saves him about 2.5 hours a day.
“I’m saving that time by not having to stop and fill out forms and search through emails all day,” Gibbs said.
As experienced workers leave the industry, contractors also risk losing the project knowledge, processes and judgment those employees have built over time. Punch helps companies build their internal playbook of best practices, bringing together project knowledge, processes and approval rules. The goal is to help contractors keep more of that know-how inside the business as experienced employees retire and give newer employees access to the way the company works.
“Construction projects are complex, unique and they don’t happen sitting behind a desk,” said Dan Teran, managing partner at Gutter Capital. “We are excited to partner with Taylor because he has lived the messy reality of construction and built Punch to harness the power of AI to meet users in the field where they are, which provides leadership with the real-time, project-level visibility required to make good decisions.”
Punch plans to use the funding to expand its engineering and customer teams, continue developing the platform and help more contractors put it to work. People interested in building practical AI for construction can learn about opportunities at hello@buildwithpunch.com.
