Hotel Association of NYC Foundation Bestows $30,000 in Grants to Support Immigrant New Yorkers

Grants to the New York Immigration Coalition and Arab American Association of New York will expand legal services and employment opportunities across New York City

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Hotel Association of New York City Foundation (HANYC Foundation), the philanthropic arm of the Hotel Association of NYC, announced $30,000 in grants to two organizations supporting immigrant New Yorkers, recognizing the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) and the Arab American Association of New York (AAANY) for their work strengthening communities across the city. Each organization will receive a $15,000 grant.

Funding for the New York Immigration Coalition will support expanded legal services for detained and at-risk immigrants, while the Arab American Association of New York will use its grant to expand career readiness and economic development programming for immigrant job seekers.

“Immigrant New Yorkers have long been essential to our hospitality industry and to the city itself,” said Heather Davis, Chair of the Hotel Association of New York City Foundation and Senior Vice President of Operations at Aimbridge Hospitality. “NYIC and AAANY are helping people access legal support, prepare for employment and build greater stability for themselves and their families. Supporting that work is both an investment in New Yorkers and in the workforce our industry depends on.”

The Foundation announced the grants at its end-of-summer event on Wednesday, September 30, at Penthouse 45, as part of its work focused on three issues directly affecting New York City and its hospitality industry: public safety, immigration, and sanitation.

“This pivotal support from the HANYC Foundation will go toward emergency assistance for families of detained clients,” said Rosanna Eugenio, NYIC’s Attorney in Chief. “Immigrant New Yorkers make up about 60-70% of the hospitality workforce; access to trusted legal services can help workers and their families navigate periods of uncertainty and remain connected to their communities.”

“We are grateful to the HANYC Foundation for investing in AAANY and our programs that help immigrant job seekers find work with reputable employers in the city,” said Maryam Khaldi, Director of Programs at AAANY. “We are often the first organization newly arrived community members turn to, and we provide them with the support needed to become strong candidates for employment.”
