Barings Appoints Sloan Sutta as Global Head of Asset-Based Finance

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Barings, one of the world's leading alternative investment managers, today announced that Sloan Sutta has joined the firm as Global Head of Asset-Based Finance (ABF). He will be based in New York and will report to Martin Horne, Co-Head of Global Investments.

Sutta will lead Barings’ $60 billion* global ABF platform, which spans public and private markets in commercial, consumer and residential strategies. He will oversee the platform’s strategic direction, including expanding its investment capabilities and solutions, as well as supporting continued growth across the business.

With more than 65 investment professionals globally, the platform combines a robust origination network with deep structuring and underwriting expertise to source and manage investments across a broad range of collateral types. Building on a 40-year track record in ABF investing, the team applies a disciplined approach across public and private markets to identify attractive opportunities and deliver solutions aligned with investors’ objectives across market cycles.

"Asset-based finance is a strategic area of focus for Barings, and we continue to see compelling opportunities to build on our platform’s strength and scale to further enhance the solutions we offer to clients," said Horne. "Sloan brings deep experience across asset-based finance markets and a strong track record of building and expanding investment platforms. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to strengthen our capabilities and position the business for its next phase of growth."

Sutta has been investing in public and private asset-based finance markets across the capital structure, as well as directly into origination platforms, for more than two decades. His expertise spans commercial, consumer, residential and commercial real estate assets, as well as differentiated sectors including transportation and aviation, media and music royalties, and other specialty asset classes. Prior to joining Barings, he served as a Partner and Investment Committee Member at Crayhill Capital Management, where he developed and led the asset-based finance platform and oversaw origination, execution and risk management. He previously held senior investment roles at Och-Ziff Capital Management (now Sculptor), Garrison Investment Group and Credit Suisse.

"Barings’ global scale and origination network, integrated public and private investing platform, and long-standing ABF track record create a differentiated market position from which to serve its clients and drive this next stage of strategic growth," said Sutta. "I am excited to expand the platform’s breadth, capabilities and offerings, seeking to deliver compelling risk-adjusted returns to investors across the evolving asset-based finance opportunity set."
