1Password Introduces AI Spend and Consumption Management to Help Organizations Optimize AI Spend

New capability helps organizations govern AI usage and spend with visibility into token consumption patterns and budget risk

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--1Password, a leader in identity security, today announced AI Spend and Consumption Management, a new capability within 1Password SaaS Manager that gives organizations a single, normalized view of AI consumption and spend across leading AI vendors. By bringing usage and token consumption data into one place, 1Password gives IT, finance teams, and business leaders a shared view of AI spend so they can understand what's driving costs, stay ahead of unexpected overages, and make more informed investment decisions. AI Spend and Consumption Management is available today for Anthropic, Cursor, and OpenAI, with support for additional AI vendors planned for future releases.

The tools organizations use to manage software spend weren’t built for AI pricing that grows with every prompt and model call. Card data, vendor dashboards, and spreadsheets were built to explain software costs retrospectively, not to help teams understand consumption as it builds. That delay can cause prepaid token budgets to run down much faster than expected, leaving organizations to discover overages only after costs have already exceeded the plan. With Goldman Sachs estimating that token consumption from AI agents will grow 24 times by 2030, organizations need clearer visibility into usage before AI spend becomes even harder to forecast and govern.

“Executives want teams to build faster with AI, but that speed is creating a new kind of spend pressure,” said Greg Henry, CFO of 1Password. “Developers are consuming tokens at a pace traditional budgets weren’t built to manage, while IT and Finance are being asked to forecast and justify AI investments without a reliable view of what’s driving costs. Organizations need better data and alerts to understand where model usage is creating value to keep budgets well managed as AI adoption grows.”

A Single View of AI Consumption Across Vendors

AI Spend and Consumption Management extends 1Password SaaS Manager's existing foundation of spend, license, and people data to help organizations bring AI consumption under control. By connecting directly to vendor admin APIs, 1Password gives organizations token-level consumption data from the source, updated daily, rather than inferring spend from card transactions, invoices, or manual exports. That granularity gives organizations the visibility to invest more confidently in high-value projects and identify usage that can be reduced or optimized before budgets are exceeded. With AI Spend and Consumption Management, organizations can:

  • See AI consumption in one place: Monitor token usage and spend across supported AI vendors through a single, normalized dashboard.
  • Stay ahead of budget risk: Set vendor-level spend limits, configure spend thresholds, and receive automated alerts through Slack and email before prepaid token balances are depleted.
  • Understand what's driving costs: Break down AI consumption by team, user, vendor, and model to understand where AI investments are delivering value, identify unexpected usage, and make more informed budgeting and renewal decisions.
  • Optimize software investments: Understand how AI spend fits within the broader software portfolio and identify where model usage can be optimized to reduce unnecessary spend.

"Forecasting tools for AI consumption and spend was one of our biggest gaps in planning because we didn’t have a reliable way to track it,” said Steve May, Director of IT at ServiceTrade. “Being able to manage AI spend directly in SaaS Manager, a platform we already rely on, removed the need for custom tools and manual tracking. Our leadership team now has the runway to see what’s committed and how fast it’s burning before it runs out. That visibility alone has prevented overages that would have cost far more to fix after the fact."

Extending SaaS Management to AI

AI Spend and Consumption Management builds on the broader role of 1Password SaaS Manager to help organizations discover, govern, and optimize every application their teams use. As organizations increasingly rely on AI tools and agents, they need the same operational controls they apply across the rest of their software portfolio. Recently recognized as a Leader in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for SaaS Management Platforms, 1Password continues to help organizations gain greater visibility and control over how software is adopted and used. AI Spend and Consumption Management expands that foundation, helping organizations confidently scale AI as a managed investment, not an unpredictable cost.

AI Spend and Consumption Management is in public preview and will be broadly available in Fall 2026. To learn more about AI Spend and Consumption Management, visit our website and blog.
