Leading Independent Actuarial Firm Verifies Superior Catastrophic Workers’ Compensation Outcomes from Paradigm

TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Paradigm, a specialty care management organization focused on delivering solutions that improve outcomes for individuals with complex injuries and diagnoses, today announced the results of the Catastrophic and Complex Workers’ Compensation Claims Cost Analysis, a recent study conducted by a leading independent actuarial firm. The study reflects Paradigm’s ongoing commitment to transparently measure and share real-world outcomes. Key findings include 32% lifetime medical cost savings and a 75% release-to-return-to-work rate—outcomes that are significantly higher than comparable industry standards, based on independently validated data and longitudinal analysis.

“We have now seen multiple studies confirm the significant impact of Paradigm HERO Catastrophic® Outcome Plans on the most complex and high-cost cases."

Examining a comprehensive sample of Paradigm-managed cases across a nine-year period, the study found Paradigm cases achieved significantly better cost and clinical outcomes than those not managed by Paradigm, offering rare, data-backed visibility into catastrophic claims performance.

“These results clearly validate what our clients see every day: accountable, outcomes-focused catastrophic claims management improves both cost and recovery trajectories,” said Kathy Galia, President, Workers’ Compensation Solutions at Paradigm. “We have now seen multiple studies confirm the significant impact of Paradigm HERO Catastrophic® Outcome Plans on the most complex and high-cost cases. In a market where outcomes are not always consistently measured or shared, we believe transparency and independent validation matter.”

The study evaluated 830 completed catastrophic and complex workers’ compensation cases managed by Paradigm, with injury dates spanning 2014 to 2023, finding materially lower medical and indemnity costs and improved return-to-work outcomes. These findings align with prior independent studies conducted in 2008, 2013, and 2020, demonstrating sustained and measurable performance across more than three decades of catastrophic case data, with consistent third-party validation over time.

“Catastrophic and complex claims introduce extreme volatility to a workers’ compensation system facing unprecedented health challenges and cost pressures,” said Kevin Turner, Chief Growth Officer at Paradigm. “As organizations seek greater predictability and certainty, this independent study shows the clear advantage of our expert-driven, evidence-based, whole-person approach to care management, grounded in measurable outcomes rather than assumptions.”
