Toy Story 5 Soars to Infinity and Beyond with All-Time Highest Total Revenue for a June Opening Weekend at Marcus Theatres
The highly anticipated installment in the beloved franchise also resulted in the all-time highest combined concession, merchandise, and food and beverage revenue for a June opening weekend
MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Marcus Theatres®, the nation’s fourth largest theatre circuit and a division of Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that the opening weekend of Toy Story 5 and strong carryover performances from several films delivered record total revenue and record combined concession, merchandise, and food and beverage revenue for a June opening weekend.
Fans of all ages turned out for Toy Story 5, from young children meeting Jessie, Woody and Buzz Lightyear for the first time to longtime moviegoers who have followed the franchise for decades. Across Marcus Theatres and Movie Tavern® locations in 17 states, audiences made the film’s opening weekend a success, with highlights including:
- All-time highest total revenue for a June opening weekend
- All-time highest combined concession, merchandise, and food and beverage revenue for a June opening weekend
- Highest opening box office for an animated film since 2019 and the highest opening for the Toy Story franchise
- Best three-day opening weekend for a film in 2026
“For more than 30 years, audiences have grown up with Woody, Buzz and the rest of the Toy Story gang,” said Jeff Tomachek, president of Marcus Theatres. “What makes Toy Story 5 so special is that it brings together multiple generations in a way very few franchises can. Parents who grew up with these characters are now sharing them with their own kids, creating a whole new set of movie memories. It also feels fitting that Jessie and Buzz are helping lead the charge for what continues to be a strong year at the box office. To infinity and beyond may be a great catchphrase, but it's also a good description of where moviegoing momentum is headed right now. From the blockbuster success of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to films like Michael, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Obsession and Backrooms, audiences continue to show that they want a wide variety of stories and experiences. The common thread is that they're best enjoyed together on the big screen. With an exciting lineup still ahead, there's never been a better time to go to the movies.”
The rest of the summer at Marcus Theatres features more highly-anticipated films, including Supergirl (June 26), Minions & Monsters (July 1), Moana (July 10), The Odyssey (July 17), Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 31), Super Troopers 3 (August 7), Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie (August 14), Insidious: Out of the Further (August 21), and Coyote vs. Acme (August 28).
Looking ahead to the remainder of the year, additional films that are expected to perform well include: Practical Magic 2 (September 11), Resident Evil (September 18), Forgotten Island (September 25), Digger (October 2), Verity (October 2), Other Mommy (October 9), The Social Reckoning (October 9), Street Fighter (October 16), The Cat in the Hat (November 6), Godzilla Minus Zero (November 6), Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (November 20), Hexed (November 25), Focker-In-Law (November 25), Dune: Part Three (December 18), Avengers: Doomsday (December 18), The Angry Birds Movie 3 (December 23) and Jumanji: Open World (December 25).
