Aalyria to Support NASA’s Polylingual Experimental Terminal (PExT) Mission

Spacetime platform to enable seamless network orchestration across government and commercial space communications infrastructure

LIVERMORE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aalyria, a leader in advanced aerospace communications and network orchestration, announced it has been selected by NASA to support enterprise service orchestration for the agency’s SCaN (Space Communications and Navigation) Program, beginning with the Polylingual Experimental Terminal (PExT) mission. Under this agreement, Aalyria will deploy Spacetime in NASA’s operational cloud environment and provide a consolidated platform for network scheduling, planning, and resource management functions.

NASA’s PExT demonstration is a groundbreaking technology demonstration, proving spacecraft can seamlessly roam between government and commercial communications networks. The mission launched in July 2025 aboard the York Space Systems BARD spacecraft and has successfully demonstrated wideband terminal technology across NASA's Tracking and Data Relay Satellite fleet and multiple commercial networks.

"NASA's PExT mission represents a fundamental shift in how space communications networks will operate in the future," said Brian Barritt, Founder of Aalyria. "Spacetime was designed precisely for this challenge – orchestrating dynamic, real-time connectivity across multiple networks and providers. We're honored to support NASA as they build the foundation for the next generation of interoperable space communications."

Under this contract, Aalyria will deploy a hosted Spacetime instance to NASA’s new Cloud Hosting platform SPOC (SCaN Program Operations Cloud) to support Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) – developer of the PExT payload – in integrating and validating the software. Aalyria will also provide engineering and developer relations support for APL teams working with Spacetime's open-source Application Programming Interface (APIs), partner with multiple requested commercial networks to extend Spacetime's Federation API for space relay scheduling, and design new API extensions to support future space missions.

This effort builds on Aalyria's existing relationship with NASA, including a contract awarded under the NextSTEP-2 program in October 2024 to conduct a Network Orchestration and Management System (NOMS) study and demonstration for NASA's SCaN Program, as well as Aalyria's work with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) on the Hybrid Space Architecture (HSA) program.

Aalyria has demonstrated it can coordinate multi-vendor, multi-orbit networks under HSA, with Spacetime acting as the orchestration layer that routes data across commercial and government satellite operators. That capability has supported broader efforts to modernize space communications infrastructure.
