The Westin Maui, Originator of “Flowerworks,” Elevates America’s 250th with Drone Show Spectacle

Weeklong Fourth of July celebration invites travelers to mark the milestone in the 50th state with sustainable experiences

KĀ‘ANAPALI, MAUI, Hawaii--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the U.S. prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kāʻanapali invites guests and kama‘āina to commemorate the milestone in a uniquely Hawai‘i way with a celebration that trades traditional fireworks for an environmentally-conscious spectacle.

Taking place July 1–6, 2026, the resort’s 16th Annual Fourth of July Celebration introduces an expanded lineup of experiences, highlighted by two signature, eco-friendly alternatives: a choreographed drone light show over Kā‘anapali and the resort’s original helicopter “flowerworks,” an aerial orchid drop. Positioned in the nation’s 50th state, the celebration blends patriotic tradition with Hawaiian culture, community, and innovation.

“As we celebrate America’s 250th, we saw an opportunity to create something that feels both meaningful and uniquely Maui,” said Josh Hargrove, General Manager of The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kāʻanapali. “From pioneering the ‘flowerworks’ tradition to introducing a large-scale drone show, we’re reimagining how people celebrate, honoring the occasion while being mindful of our environment and sense of place.”

To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, The Westin Maui is offering the limited-time “Stars & Stripes Over Maui” package, available now through July 15. Guests who book a four-night stay in a Superior Ocean or Hōkūpa‘a Ocean Front room will receive 15% off, along with a $250 resort credit for dining, spa treatments, cultural experiences, and resort activities. Guests can book using promotional code: E6772 at https://www.hokupaamaui.com/offers.

Signature Experiences:

  • Helicopter “Flowerworks” (July 4)
A Westin Maui original, the beloved “flowerworks” transforms the sky as tropical orchids are released from above the pool deck. Designed as an alternative to fireworks, guests can catch and weave the blooms into lei, creating a culturally-rooted celebration.
  • Drone Light Show Finale (July 4)
Replacing traditional fireworks, hundreds of synchronized drones will illuminate the night sky with formations inspired by the ocean, Hawai‘i, and the spirit of America’s 250th, offering a wildlife-conscious alternative to pyrotechnics.

On Saturday, July 4, the resort will host a full day of programming, including:

  • Oceanfront BBQ at Hōkūpa‘a Lawn
  • Live DJ entertainment and beachside experiences
  • Live music by Adrian Trevino
  • Keiki-friendly activities
  • Selawe’s Wings Eating Contest
