Empower to Support Miles for Military to Help U.S. Service Members

Miles for Military champions community volunteerism by offering active duty junior enlisted service members a free round-trip flight in exchange for 25 hours of volunteer service

The program provided 540 flights for junior enlisted service members in 2025 and plans to fly home 5,000 in 2026

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Empower, a leading workplace solutions provider and wealth manager, announced today it would be supporting Miles for Military (MFM), a nonprofit organization committed to supporting the comprehensive well-being of service members by providing flights home for active-duty junior enlisted personnel for holidays and other important events.

The organization provides flights home (up to $1,000) in return for the service members volunteering 25+ hours with a charity of their choice.

“By providing travel assistance for U.S. service members, Miles for Military has helped removed financial barriers to help these individuals who are already giving so much,” said President and CEO Edmund F. Murphy, III at Empower.

“Empower has provided tens of millions of individuals with a pathway to financial security, and it is both an honor and a privilege to count Empower as an early partner of Miles for Military,” said Executive Director, Windle Jarvis at Miles for Military. “Together, Empower and MFM will bring hope to thousands of military personnel and their families to help them stay connected.”

Miles for Military has booked flights for over 600 service members since inception; service members volunteered more than 40,000 hours for nonprofit organizations in more than 137 military base communities in the U.S. and Overseas (Hawaii, Alaska, South Korea, Japan, Guam, Germany, Poland, and Italy) and demand grew rapidly during the 2025 holiday season with 82 flights for Thanksgiving and over 300 flights during the holiday season.

“Empower supports veterans and military families through workplace programs designed to help them transition and thrive. We all look forward to seeing MFM continue to grow and achieve the success they have had by making a difference for those who serve,” Murphy continued.

Empower supports the communities where its associates live and work by amplifying the causes they care about most. Through volunteerism, nonprofit board service, and matching contributions, associates invest their time, talent, and resources to create meaningful local impact.

In 2025, Empower associates volunteered nearly 40,000 hours, including 700 hours dedicated to supporting nonprofits that serve the military community in the U.S., such as Wreaths Across America, Tunnels to Towers, and the Wounded Warrior Project. We also have multiple Business Resource Groups open to all associates, including our veteran-focused group VALOR (Veterans & Allies – Leadership, Outreach & Resources), which has more than 400 members that coordinates programs that support and engage the military community.
