Workers with Disabilities to Assess Ford Conservatives’ Progress on Accessibility

- Afternoon tour of legislative building will gauge AODA compliance -

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At a media conference tomorrow, workers with disabilities will join representatives of CUPE Ontario and the Ontario NDP critic for accessibility to offer their assessment of the Ford government’s record on the implementation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

The AODA was intended to ensure, over a 20-year timeline, that public spaces and buildings were accessible to people with disabilities. But last year’s deadline came and went with no accounting for the Act’s requirements.

In the afternoon, the group will tour the legislative building and report back at a later date on what they encounter in relation to AODA compliance.

EDMONTON, AB--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CUPE Alberta is raising serious concerns about new legislation introduced today that will require the physical segregation of certain public library materials and mandate parental permission for youth under 16 to borrow them. Bill 28 would apply to public libraries across the province, and would restrict citizens’ access even to materials aimed at adults. According to Minister of Public Affairs Dan Williams, books his government deems too “graphic” will be require...
