The Emily Program Launches Trauma-Focused Partial Hospitalization Eating Disorder Treatment Program in Columbus, OH
In-person eating disorder treatment program delivers much needed care to underserved population in the Midwest
COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Emily Program, a national leader in eating disorder specialty care and behavioral health services, today announced the launch of its Trauma and Eating Disorder Partial Hospitalization Program in Columbus, OH on March 30th. Designed specifically for adults with trauma histories and eating disorders, the in-person treatment combines the expert eating disorder care The Emily Program has provided for decades with an evidence-based trauma treatment approach called Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). This integrated approach recognizes that for many individuals, trauma and eating disorders are deeply interconnected and must be treated together to support lasting recovery.

An estimated 43.8 percent of individuals diagnosed with an eating disorder reported experiencing more than one traumatic event in their lives, according to the International Journal of Eating Disorders. When trauma disrupts one’s sense of safety, control, identity or self-worth, the risk of developing an eating disorder greatly increases. Trauma can also exacerbate feelings that contribute to disordered eating, like self-criticism, perfectionism, poor body image, and impulsivity.
“Across Ohio and the broader Midwest, we have long recognized a gap in the industry when it comes to providing treatment to clients with eating disorders and trauma histories. This intersection represents an underserved subset of patients whose treatment needs have not been sufficiently met,” said Jenny Beck, Executive Director of The Emily Program’s Residential and Outpatient Treatment Centers in Columbus, Ohio. “The depth of expertise of our Columbus staff allows us to provide the thoughtful, specialized care this region needs, while also offering a destination for individuals outside the region who need travel to access the kind of specialized treatment that has been difficult to find.”
The program components include:
- Therapy groups
- Individual CPT therapy and eating disorder therapy sessions
- Individual nutrition, medical, and psychiatry sessions
- Therapeutic supported meals and snacks
- Mindfulness-based grounding practices multiple times per day
“Given the high co-occurrence of eating disorders and trauma, the launch of this program was a natural and clinically important step in our mission to improve access to care,” said M Mullan, Clinical Director of The Emily Program Columbus. “We are proud to bring this level of integrated, evidence-based care to Columbus to better support individuals whose recovery requires addressing both conditions together.”
