Saybrook Welcomes Bill Black

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Saybrook Fund Advisors, LLC (“Saybrook”) announces Bill Black is joining the firm as Co-Portfolio Manager of its recently launched municipal credit opportunity strategy for separately managed accounts. The strategy builds on Saybrook’s expertise to maximize after-tax total return for investors through investment in municipal credits that Saybrook believes are undervalued. Co-Managing Partners and Co-Portfolio Managers Jon Schotz and Jeff Wilson will join Black to comprise the investment management team.

“Saybrook has a strong track record in the distressed space and I’m excited to leverage my experience toward growing the credit opportunity strategy in municipal high yield,” said Black.

“I’ve known Bill since the 1990’s and we are thrilled that he is joining us,” said Wilson. “His experience, municipal market knowledge and professionalism will be a tremendous asset for Saybrook and its investors.”

Prior to joining Saybrook, Black was a Senior Portfolio Manager at City National Rochdale, where he managed the City National Rochdale High Income Municipal Bond Fund. From 2008 to 2015, Black was the Co-Lead Portfolio Manager of the Invesco High Yield Municipal Fund. His career in municipals commenced in 1984.

Saybrook’s municipal opportunity funds, first commenced in 2000, primarily invest in distressed and defaulted municipal obligations. “We believe the illiquidity in the municipal bond market is only getting worse,” said Schotz. “Our credit opportunity strategy, with Bill’s expertise, will allow us to invest in a larger area of the municipal bond market and take advantage of the illiquidity to target tax-effective returns to our clients.”

“Saybrook has a strong track record in the distressed space and I’m excited to leverage my experience toward growing the credit opportunity strategy in municipal high yield,” said Black.
