No More Attacks! Youth Advocates Stand Up for LGBTQIA+ Rights
We The People coalition sponsors grassroots community townhall to address ongoing rise in discriminatory legislation in Ohio and nationwide
CLEVELAND--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Young advocates from across the metropolitan Cleveland area will lead a grassroots townhall Saturday to address ongoing attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community and the rise of discriminatory legislation in Ohio and nationwide. The event is part of the We The People National March campaign.
Locally, the Ohio House of Representatives passed HB 8, a bill modeled after Florida’s “Don’t Say LGBTQ+” bill, & HB 68, which, as amended, would prohibit gender-affirming care for transgender youth as well as ban transgender students from school sports.

In 2023, more than 530 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills were introduced in statehouses across the country, including Ohio, according to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). HRC adds that 74 pieces of discriminatory legislation against the LGBTQIA+ community have been signed into law. Locally, the Ohio House of Representatives passed HB 8, a bill modeled after Florida’s “Don’t Say LGBTQ+” bill, and HB 68, which, as amended, would prohibit gender affirming care for transgender youth as well as ban transgender students from participating in school sports consistent with their gender identity.
