Announcing the Launch of MUD\FILMS, the New Cinematic Lens for MUD\WTR

Launched March 2022 with Resurfacing: Koa Smith

LOS ANGELES--()--MUD\FILMS, the new cinematic lens for MUD\WTR, creates media to keep society’s mental landscapes intact. We highlight human rituals, chronicle the evolution of mental health and teach beneficial daily practices to those in pursuit of a life well-lived. In a noisy world, we aim to provide a bastion of positive and actionable stories, while building a supportive community around them.

MUD\WTR may be best known for its coffee-alternative beverages, but our brand has always believed in creative thought, exploration and solutions for a world seeking relief from collective overwhelm. MUD\FILMS is the latest expression of this belief.

The first film, “Resurfacing: Koa Smith,” released on March 17, 2022 on MUD\WTR’s site and YouTube channel, follows pro-surfer Koa Smith’s journey after a devastating accident leaves him with a traumatic brain injury and depression. Koa searches for answers where ancient rituals meet modern science, and finds hope with the help of psychedelics.

“Film has the power to transport us viscerally into an issue or story. If we're able to relate to an experience, it allows us to find compassion and understanding for others and ourselves. We can hopefully find connection, knowledge and healing in this sharing of stories,” says Dersu Rhodes, VP of Brand.

Expect to see more short-form documentaries and elevated instructional videos released at a monthly cadence on the MUD\WTR Youtube channel, featuring inspiring characters and practical master classes from the likes of pro-surfer Koa Smith and citizen mycologist William Padilla-Brown on topics such as mental health, sustaining rituals and humanity.
