Hat Trick: Three DataTribe Portfolio Company Exits in Q2 2021

Cybersecurity Startups, Attila Security, Code Dx and ReFirm Labs, Acquired by Industry Leaders

FULTON, Md.--()--DataTribe, a global cyber foundry that invests in and co-builds next-generation cybersecurity and data science companies, closed Q2 2021 with three of the Foundry’s portfolio companies, Attila Security, Code Dx and ReFirm Labs, achieving meaningful exits through acquisition by industry leaders in their respective categories.

“As a seed investor, we are engaging with our portfolio companies in their infancy and helping to guide them through the journey of getting off the ground and scaling. The acquisitions of three of our portfolio companies by industry leaders, Microsoft, Synopsys and ID Technologies, is a testament to the process we put in place to help our portfolio companies be successful,” said John Funge, Managing Director, DataTribe. “We focus on investing in over-the-horizon to technologies and founders coming out of the intelligence community to create companies that focus on commercial markets. Each of these three companies is an example of this approach in action and working well.”

Q2 2021 Portfolio Exits:

ReFirm Labs Acquired by Microsoft: Founded in 2017 by a team of former NSA veterans, ReFirm Labs’ technology is used to secure firmware, which is the lower-level software that powers the hardware in connected devices.

Code Dx Acquired by Synopsys: Founded in 2016 by Dr. Anita D’Amico and a top team that began their work via a DHS funded research project, Code Dx offers an application security risk management solution that automates and accelerates the discovery, prioritization and remediation of software vulnerabilities. The company was acquired by Synopsys in June 2021.

Attila Security by ID Technologies: Founded in 2018 by former NSA alum, alongside a 5-time CEO, Attila Security became the fastest commercial product to receive NIAP certification, a commercial cybersecurity product certification that is mandated by federal procurement for technology or products which will be used to handle sensitive data. Attila is a leader in distributed collaboration edge and cloud computing solutions for the United States Government and 5 Eyes.

On the heels of these exits, DataTribe announced the addition of the Ntrinsec to the company’s portfolio. Ntrinsec is the only moving-target defense start-up that is solving the secrets sprawl that exists in enterprises of all sizes today.
