John Dabiri and Jonathan Levin Join the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Board of Trustees

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation today announced the election of two new trustees – John Dabiri, Ph.D., Centennial Chair Professor at Caltech and Jonathan Levin, Ph.D., dean of Stanford Graduate School of Business. These appointments build on the appointments of Hilary Krane and Ellen Ochoa in 2018 to establish continuity in board service over the coming years.

Over these past two years, the foundation has prepared for the transition of its longest-serving trustees – some of whom have been with the foundation since its early days.

“We are fortunate to have John Dabiri and Jon Levin join our board at this time,” said Harvey V. Fineberg, M.D., Ph.D., president of the foundation. “Their membership, along with the recent board appointments of Hilary Krane and Ellen Ochoa will position the foundation well for years to come.”

John Dabiri is the Centennial Chair Professor at Caltech, with appointments in the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories (GALCIT) and Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on unsteady fluid mechanics and flow physics, with particular emphasis on topics relevant to biology, energy, and the environment. Current interests include biological fluid dynamics in the ocean, next-generation wind energy, and development of new experimental methods.

“My relationship with the Moore Foundation spans the past two decades, beginning with a Moore Foundation fellowship that enabled my graduate studies at Caltech,” said Dabiri. “I’ve been consistently inspired by their vision to achieve lasting impacts by taking risks and by patiently nurturing their commitments to fruition. Jon Levin is the Philip H. Knight Professor and dean at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is an economist, known for his work on industrial organization, marketplace design, and technological change. Dean Levin joined the Stanford faculty as an assistant professor in 2000. He rose through the ranks to become the Holbrook Working Professor of Price Theory and served as chair of the Department of Economics from 2011 to 2014, before becoming the 10^th dean of the Graduate School of Business in 2016.

Paul Gray, Ph.D., the former vice chancellor and provost of the University of California, Berkeley serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees. Co-founder, Gordon Moore served as chairman of the board until 2018. He remains active on the board and serves as chairman emeritus. Co-founder, Betty Moore, stepped down from the board in 2009.
