Luskin Match Challenge Provides for Doubling of Donor Gifts to Los Angeles’ Orthopaedic Institute for Children

Longtime Supporters Renee and Meyer Luskin to Double All Gifts to OIC Up to $2 Million; Community Encouraged to Play Its Part in Helping Children Grow Well and Play Well

LOS ANGELES--()--The 2020 Luskin Match Challenge is on!

Los Angeles’ Orthopaedic Institute for Children announced that longtime donors and supporters Renee and Meyer Luskin have generously offered to match every dollar donated to OIC, dollar for dollar up to $2 million, through June 30, 2020. The funds will help assure that all children with a musculoskeletal condition or injury in Los Angeles and beyond have the opportunity to grow well and play well through the institute’s commitment to patient care, scientific research and education.

“Every dollar donated wraps a broken bone; pays for a first step; and aids in life-changing, lifesaving treatment,” said OIC President and CEO Anthony Scaduto, M.D. “Throughout our history we have treated millions of children regardless of their family’s ability to pay, and we couldn’t have done so without our donors and the examples of incredible generosity displayed by caring individuals like Renee and Meyer Luskin.”

The Luskins’ unwavering support for Los Angeles’ children goes well beyond this dollar match commitment. The impact of their philanthropy can be seen throughout Los Angeles—at UCLA, the Luskin Charter School, and OIC’s Renee and Meyer Luskin Clinic at UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, Santa Monica. Meyer Luskin is also a former chairman of the board at OIC.

The Luskin Match Challenge comes at a time when OIC is undergoing an incredible transformation on its downtown Los Angeles campus, creating a national model of what pediatric medical care should look like in this early part of the 21st century. Earlier this month OIC opened The Ahmanson Foundation Fracture Center, one of the nation’s largest pediatric orthopaedic fracture centers and made possible through a $250,000 grant from The Ahmanson Foundation. In December OIC dedicated its new medical pavilion, and earlier in 2019 it opened the city’s most modern urgent care center for children with musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. It is all part of the institute’s $20 million “Vision for Our Future” campaign designed to ensure that OIC’s surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff have the best facilities and equipment to care for the increasing number of children who come through its doors.

“I am regularly humbled by the kindness of our donor community as exemplified by this extraordinary gift from the Luskins,” said Michael Sullivan, vice president and chief philanthropy officer at OIC. “The Luskin Match Challenge is the opportunity for anyone to double their donation and change a child’s life while doing it.”
