First GIANT Heirloom Market™ to Open January 25 in Philadelphia

Partners with Unique Philadelphia Purveyors

Overwhelmingly Fresh, Surprisingly Affordable

CARLISLE, Pa.--()--GIANT Food Stores announced today that it plans to open the first GIANT Heirloom Market™ on Friday, January 25 at 7 a.m. The store, located in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood in Philadelphia at 2303 Bainbridge Street, introduces a new store concept, format, and assortment specially curated for urban neighborhoods.

Angel Cordero, a 20-year grocery veteran, has been appointed store manager of the new GIANT Heirloom Market. The store will operate 7 a.m.-10 p.m., seven days a week and will also employ approximately 60 full and part time partners.

“We’ve had the privilege of getting to know our Graduate Hospital neighbors and they are the true inspiration for our new store,” said Cordero. “I am thrilled to soon officially open the doors to GIANT Heirloom Market and I’m sure our neighbors will be just as excited to experience a store that connects them to real food, where every trip will inspire them to eat better – and for less.”

What’s In-Store at GIANT Heirloom Market

The new store will blend modern innovation and community focus, while delivering the quality expected by GIANT, to bring great food to its neighbors. The 9,500 square foot store in Graduate Hospital will offer an inspiring selection of high-quality, fresh, local, seasonal and flavor-focused foods, everyday essentials and organic private brand Nature’s Promise®.

Community vendor partnerships will be center stage at GIANT Heirloom Market where passionate Philadelphia-area food purveyors such as High Street on Market, Isgro Pastries, One Village Coffee, and Sarcone’s Bakery will entice and beguile shoppers with their wares.

Through seasonal, specialty, and natural foods, GIANT Heirloom Market will unearth the desire within customers to both embrace recipes of the past and cook up something new – for themselves, for their families, and for all who have a seat at their table.

The store will feature an onsite Produce Chef to encourage exploration and to cut fresh vegetables and fruit on demand. Customers will encounter a vast array of plant-based foods, local artisanal breads, kombucha on tap, and can even create their very own olive oil and vinegar blends, infused with the flavors of their choice, at a do-it-yourself station. For fresh culinary inspiration, a sampling station will help answer the age-old question, what’s for dinner?

GIANT Heirloom Market will also feature a curated selection of craft, imported and domestic beers and wines. Whether they’re looking for the perfect wine to pair with that night’s dinner or wanting to sample a few new brews with the “mix-a-six” option, customers will be able to cross one more item of their shopping list.

“We’re proud to serve our Graduate Hospital neighbors during their culinary quests by offering fresh produce, meat and seafood alongside the Philly products they know and love all in a store designed for them,” continued Cordero. “We’re confident that by providing an authentic shopping experience, our passion for locally sourced products and our customers will shine bright at GIANT Heirloom Market.”

Based on an “Endless Aisles” philosophy that stresses ease and personalized solutions, if customers ever need something that is not available in-store, partners will help guide them to in-store iPads to order online, to be delivered the next day. For added convenience, GIANT Heirloom Market will offer both self and mobile checkout.

Grand Opening Community Celebration

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, January 25, GIANT Heirloom Market will officially open its doors to the Graduate Hospital neighborhood. Upon entering the store, the first 250 customers will receive a free GIANT Heirloom Market cotton tote bag. As part of the celebration, GIANT Heirloom Market will foster exploration and encourage creativity in the kitchen by offering free samplings and demonstrations throughout the day.

GIANT Heirloom Market will conduct a grand opening community celebration ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Neighbors are welcome to join GIANT leaders, partners and community members as they commemorate the store opening with a donation to Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization.

The new store will be staffed by partners who are passionate about food and are willing to help customers find fresh, quality products. To apply, visit: https://www.facebook.com/pg/HeirloombyGiant/jobs/.
