Turbonomic Extends AI-Powered Workload Automation to Kubernetes-as-a-Service Offerings

Self-Managing AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Pivotal Kubernetes Services Assure Performance While Maximizing Elasticity and Maintaining Policy Compliance

BOSTON--()--Turbonomic, the leader in workload automation for hybrid cloud, today extended its unique self-managing Kubernetes capabilities with new support for Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS), Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and Pivotal Container Service (PKS). Turbonomic enables customers to continuously assure performance, maximize elasticity and maintain compliance with business policies across their Kubernetes-as-a-Service (KaaS) offering of choice. The company will be demonstrating its KaaS management capabilities at VMworld US 2018 (booth #1634).

Container platforms play a central role in digital transformation. Over 50 percent of organizations are expected to run containerized applications in production by 2020, up from less than 20 percent today. Kubernetes is now the infrastructure of choice for dynamic modern applications because of its portability, interoperability and extensibility. KaaS offerings make it easier for customers to build and deploy Kubernetes, but the fundamental challenge of navigating the tradeoffs between performance, policy compliance and cost still increases.

Turbonomic’s AI-powered decision engine ensures containers (Kubernetes “pods”) always have the exact resources needed, at the right time. In addition to EKS and AKS support, Turbonomic also delivers full-stack control in AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud environments by optimizing the underlying compute, storage and database instances. Turbonomic’s workload automation capabilities now enable workloads to be self-managing, anywhere, in real-time spanning on-premises to public cloud environments, and covering workloads of all types - virtual machines, cloud instances and containers.

New KaaS management capabilities enable EKS, AKS, GKE and PKS customers to:

  • Ensure optimal container redistribution through automated pod rescheduling in KaaS deployments, assuring the performance of containerized services. When rescheduling pods, Turbonomic also considers container platform compliance policies, including node labels, affinity and anti-affinity;
  • Optimize container-resource reservation, requests, and limits in KaaS deployments, ensuring containers have the exact resources needed to perform, while eliminating over-provisioning so that customers never overspend in the cloud;
  • Intelligently scale Kubernetes clusters in and out based on real-time demand, assuring application performance while minimizing cost, which allows customers to fully realize the Kubernetes promise of elasticity.

“Customers want the portability and elasticity of Kubernetes and KaaS offerings get them there more quickly. Operationally, they still have to manage performance, compliance and cost overruns—KaaS alone does not solve for that. Driven by the success of CDI's Zero Touch Operating Model, we’re excited to work with Turbonomic and build a next generation AI-powered workload automation offering into CDI’s portfolio to give our clients the confidence that they can realize the full promise of Kubernetes on any cloud as they build, develop and maintain the modern applications that will carry their business forward,” said Jason Kalvesmaki, Vice President of Sales at CDI Corporation.

“Kubernetes will continue to fuel the modernization of applications and services,” said Charles Crouchman, CTO at Turbonomic. “Only Turbonomic enables KaaS offerings to self-manage, freeing DevOps and Operators to focus on innovating to drive digital transformation.”

Support for EKS, AKS, GKE and PKS will be available this Fall. For more information, register to join today’s webinar, Self-Managing KaaS: Workload Automation for EKS, AKS, GKE, and PKS, beginning at 11:00 AM ET.
