MIDDLETOWN, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Embrace Home Loans, a prominent leader in the mortgage industry, was pleased to sponsor and participate in the second annual Fight Child Hunger 5k with proceeds benefiting The Central Brevard Sharing Center and The Children’s Hunger Project. The race took place on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Viera High School in Viera, Florida.
The Fight Child Hunger 5k was a truly groundbreaking event: a joint fundraiser for both The Central Brevard Sharing Center and The Children’s Hunger Project aimed at fighting against childhood hunger. The Children’s Hunger Project works to restore hope, and to nurture the minds and hearts of the hungry children of Brevard County by providing them with food assistance, and The Central Brevard Sharing Center provides emergency assistance to those in the Brevard community who may be struggling to obtain life’s most basic needs.
“Each year, thousands of children who qualify for free or reduced-free meal program in Brevard’s public schools do not receive the nutrition they need on Saturday and Sunday,” said Bob Gabordi, Children’s Hunger Project chairman. “We’d like every child in need to have healthy and sustainable meals over the weekend so that they arrive at school ready to learn and grow!”
By raising money through the support of sponsors and participants, the race helped fill the lunchboxes of Brevard County students with much-needed food for their weekends, when they would not receive free meals at school. With almost 400 runners, the 5k was a huge success bringing more awareness to this important issue. Embrace volunteers and participants at the event were led by Viera branch manager, Stephen Thaggard. Through Embrace Home Loans’ backing, The Children’s Hunger Project will be able to feed an additional 133 local children in 2018, and fewer children will go hungry on the Space Coast.

The Viera, Florida branch of Embrace Home Loans is also currently collecting donations in support of The Sharing Center of Central Brevard. Suggested donations include: nonperishable foods, clothing, shoes, books, toys, games, kitchenware, small appliances, home goods and personal hygiene products. All donations can be dropped off during business hours at 5500 Murrell Road, Suite 201 Viera, Florida 32940, now through April 6.
Additionally, Embrace Home Loans will be sponsoring The Sharing Center of Central Brevard’s Third Annual Amateur Backyard Barbecue Contest on April 7 at F. Burton Smith Park in Cocoa, Florida. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Children’s Weekend Feeding Program – a program designed to empower families with children by providing access to healthy food on the weekends while school is in session. The event will support struggling families with children who deal with hunger on a daily basis.
