WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--STEMLY, a nonprofit advocacy organization championing access to high quality science, technology, engineering, and math education for underrepresented groups in the nation’s capital, is announcing an exciting new summer scholarship program.
The STEMLY Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to local high school students who are interested in attending a pre-selected list of acceptable summer STEM programs or camps. Successful applicants will receive full tuition, as well as transportation and food stipends, for one session at the approved program or camp.
“At STEMLY, we envision a world where high-quality STEM education is freely available to all – regardless of your zip code or socioeconomic status,” said Devon Rollins, CEO and co-founder of STEMLY. “Our summer scholarship program will enable bright, capable students from the District to participate in some of the best local STEM camps and programs, accelerating their technology education and enriching the communities in which they reside.”
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a Washington, D.C. resident and have resided in Washington, D.C. for 12 continuous months prior to applying.
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Be a high school student currently enrolled in a Washington, D.C. school.
- Earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on an unweighted 4.0 scale.
- Demonstrate an interest in STEM.
- Complete the scholarship application, including the application essay.
Application Process
Submit the following information to apply for the STEM tuition coverage:
- Submit the entire application form, including the essay, here.
- The deadline for submission is April 1, 2018.
- The scholarship acceptance committee will review all applications and notify recipients by April 15, 2018.
- Please note that both the acceptable programs below, as well as other programs, may have deadlines in advance of April 1.

The following programs have been pre-approved. Additional programs may be approved upon review and request.
- American University 2018 iD Tech summer program courses, including coding, game development, design, and robotics
- Georgetown University 2018 iD Tech summer program courses, including coding, game development, design, and robotics
- Howard University 2018 iD Tech summer program courses, including coding, game development, design, and robotics
- University of the District of Columbia 2018 iD Tech summer program courses, including coding, game development, design, and robotics
- The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK)
