Tigera Redefines Secure Application Connectivity for the Cloud Native World

Tigera CNX accelerates enterprise application deployments with Zero Trust network security combined with enterprise control and compliance

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Tigera, the leader in secure application connectivity for the cloud native world whose technology powers some of the world’s largest cloud native application environments, today announced Tigera CNX™, the industry’s first secure application connectivity solution designed for the dynamism of cloud native workloads. Tigera CNX software provides secure application connectivity across multi-cloud and legacy environments while delivering the enterprise control and compliance capabilities required for mission critical deployments.

According to Gartner, by 2020 more than 50% of global organizations will be running containerized applications in production, up from less than 20% today.1

In an increasingly cloud native world, modern applications are becoming more distributed, dynamically orchestrated, and run across multi-cloud infrastructure. Such applications use containerized microservices that have an underappreciated impact on the underlying infrastructure: churning 250 times faster than traditional virtual machines, they present challenges for established network and security solutions that were designed for data center environments, not the cloud. To protect workloads and ensure compliance, enterprises must establish connectivity in an application-centric manner independent of the infrastructure and secured in a highly dynamic environment. Additionally, modern applications have to co-exist with legacy applications. This drives the need for a single connectivity and security solution that works across containers, virtual machines and bare metal servers.

Tigera CNX connects and secures container, virtual machine and bare metal host workloads in public cloud and private data centers. CNX is designed from the ground up as a cloud native solution, building on technologies cultivated through Tigera’s leading role in open source projects including Calico and Istio. It provides a zero trust approach to network security with multiple levels of policy enforcement and encryption independent of the underlying network.

“Enterprises with emerging cloud native workloads struggle to overcome operational complexity and maintain application uptime while ensuring consistent security policies and compliance across microservices, containers, and VMs,” said Ratan Tipirneni, President and CEO of Tigera. “Tigera CNX leverages the knowledge and expertise we’ve gained from open source projects like Calico and Istio to help enterprises accelerate cloud native deployments that depend on secure application connectivity.”

Other highlights of Tigera CNX include:

  • Zero Trust Security: CNX’s unique ZT-Auth™ technology enables organizations to move towards a Zero Trust approach to application connectivity, with multiple levels of policy enforcement and encryption enabling maximum security that is independent of the underlying network infrastructure.
  • Cloud Native Architecture: CNX is the first secure application connectivity solution designed from the ground-up for cloud native environments, including multi-cloud deployments, while also protecting legacy applications running on virtual machines and bare metal hosts.
  • Enterprise Control and Compliance: CNX provides the hierarchical, access-controlled policy controls required to integrate with existing organizational processes and meet internal and external compliance requirements.
  • Operational Simplicity: CNX turns the complex, opaque, overlay-based Software Defined Network (SDN) model of network virtualization and security on its head. CNX leverages a simple, flat IP networking model and proven kernel routing features for optimal reliability and visibility, with powerful operational tools required for rapid problem diagnosis and resolution.
