Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana Expands In-Network Access to the Elkhart Clinic

More members of Anthem’s Medicare Advantage plans will have access to high-quality health care at lower out-of-pocket costs

INDIANAPOLIS--()--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana (Anthem) announced today that the Elkhart Clinic will be joining Anthem’s Medicare Advantage (MA) health maintenance organization (HMO) and dual special needs program (D-SNP) networks, effective December 11, 2017. Hoosiers enrolled in Anthem’s Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO health plans will have in-network access to the Elkhart Clinic’s cutting-edge primary and specialty care as well as diagnostic, therapeutic and wellness services. The Elkhart Clinic is already in Anthem’s MA preferred provider organization (PPO) network.

“Making the Elkhart Clinic a preferred provider in Anthem’s Medicare Advantage HMO and D-SNP demonstrates Anthem’s unwavering commitment to giving our members access to high-quality, affordable health care,” said David McNichols, President of Anthem’s Medicare Central region. “Our members in northern Indiana will have increased flexibility to choose the doctors and facilities that suit their particular health needs and personal preferences. They will also have lower out-of-pocket costs compared to seeing out-of-network health care professionals – which is an important consideration for older adults living on a fixed income.”

The Elkhart Clinic has been serving Elkhart County and the surrounding communities for more than 60 years. It is a multi-specialty medical provider that is patient-focused, effective and evidence-based. The Elkhart Clinic offers full service laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, including x-ray, MRI, CT and PET scans.

“The Elkhart Clinic has a rich heritage of advancing the holistic health of our patients by being attentive to the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of their quest of healing, wholeness, and balance,” said Kevin Boyer, CEO. “By being part of Anthem’s HMO, PPO, and D-SNP networks, we ensure that more residents in northern Indiana will have access to our services.”

The fact that the Elkhart Clinic is in Anthem’s HMO, PPO, and D-SNP networks is also important for Medicare-eligible Hoosiers who are making a decision on their 2018 Medicare coverage. Consumers should know which health care professionals will be in their health plan’s network because it will most likely impact their total out-of-pocket health care costs for 2018.

The opportunity to enroll in a Medicare plan began on October 15 and continues through December 7. This is the one time each year when Medicare-eligible individuals can pick or switch Medicare Advantage plans.

Hoosiers eligible for Medicare Advantage – those who are enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B – have the opportunity to select from a number of Anthem’s 2018 Medicare Advantage plans where the Elkhart Clinic will be an in-network provider. These plans include Anthem MediBlue Plus (HMO), Anthem MediBlue Access (PPO), Anthem MediBlue Access Basic (Regional PPO), and Anthem MediBlue Dual Advantage (HMO SNP).
