DETROIT--()--Magic Johnson Foundation and UnitedHealthcare held three Holiday Hope events over the weekend that provided Michigan families in Detroit, Flint and Lansing with food, coats, toys, holiday trimmings and essential living items.

Nearly 5,000 families participated in Holiday Hope events in Detroit at Second Ebenezer Church, Flint at Flint Northwestern High School and Lansing at Everett High School. Volunteers from UnitedHealthcare, Magic Johnson Foundation and other partner organizations joined community leaders in distributing items to local families.

This is the fourth year Magic Johnson Foundation and UnitedHealthcare partnered on this relief effort to support distressed Michigan families during the holiday season.

“Since 2014, Holiday Hope has served nearly 30,000 Michigan residents with nearly $2 million worth of food, turkeys, toys, coats and personal-care items,” said Johnson, founder of Magic Johnson Foundation and Michigan native. “UnitedHealthcare and other community partners have joined us in bringing hope and cheer to Michigan communities. I couldn’t enjoy the holidays without providing some help to families in the state where I grew up.”

“The Magic Johnson Foundation is well known for its work in these cities and engages locally to help improve our communities’ health, wellness and quality of life,” said Dennis Mouras, CEO, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Michigan. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support Magic Johnson Foundation and Holiday Hope.”

UnitedHealthcare has donated more than $550,000 to support Holiday Hope and is the largest multiyear corporate grant partner to Magic Johnson Foundation.
