Macquarie Canada Raises Funds for Charities in Third Annual Oyster Shuck Off

  • Event brings together top industry executives for the third year running
  • Macquarie and partners raise over $235,000 for various charitable causes
  • Since 2015, the Shuck Off has raised more than $680,000

CALGARY, Alberta--()--Macquarie Group teamed up with its partners in the energy industry to hold the Annual Shuck Off and Seafood Feast charity event held in Calgary’s charbar at The Simmons Building on September 28th. Bringing awareness to the needs of the Canadian Mental Health Association (Calgary), Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kids Help Phone and Children’s Wish Foundation, the event raised over $235,000 in individual donations and corporate contributions. The total donation amount comprised of more than $77,000 raised by Shuck Off contestants and their supporters, as well as $159,000 in contributions from Macquarie staff and matching funds from the Macquarie Group Foundation.

Dale Shwed, President and CEO of Crew Energy Inc. reclaimed his title for a third time and was the 2017 winner of the Macquarie Oyster Shuck Off, taking home the trophy for his charity, the Children's Wish Foundation. Generous participants who volunteered to compete on behalf of their nominated charities this year included: Kelly Hrudey, SportsNet; Ron Hozjan, Tamarack Valley Energy; and Fotis Kalantzis, Spartan Energy Corp.
