The small group of members began their weeklong adventure in Beijing, where they first visited the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven to learn about the area’s captivating history. They then traveled to Taipingzhai, where they began their hike on the ancient Wall.
Made of stone, brick, packed earth, wood and other materials, the Great Wall is a series of defensive fortifications originally created to protect the empire against northern raids and invasions. The oldest sections of the Wall can be traced back as early as 7th century BC. During their adventure, local guides helped members discover spots that are not often found by tourists, providing them with unrivaled views of the surrounding landscape and details about the country’s history.
