Anthem Blue Cross Adjusts Medical and Pharmacy Benefits for Members Affected by State of Emergency Due to Recent Wildfires

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--()--Anthem Blue Cross (Anthem) today announced revised medical and pharmacy guidelines to help members living in Butte, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Sonoma and Yuba Counties who are directly impacted by the wildfires that have prompted the governor to issue a state of emergency.

The revised guidelines will help Anthem members affected by the fire access needed medical care and prescription drugs. For impacted members, Anthem is:

  • Relaxing time limits for prior authorization, pre-certification and referral requirements – there will be no late penalties.
  • Suspending early refill limits for prescriptions.
  • Allowing replacement of medical equipment or supplies.
  • Extending filing deadlines for claims.

These medical and pharmacy guidelines are effective from October 9, 2017 until October 30, 2017, unless further extended.

These relaxed medical and pharmacy guidelines do not apply to Federal Employees Health Benefits Program members. Those programs have specific guidelines.

For additional questions, members should call the phone number on the back of their membership card.
