CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio (Anthem) and UC Health announced that the University of Cincinnati Medical Center will join Anthem’s Medicare Advantage and Medicare Select provider network, effective October 1, 2017. Ohioans who are members of Anthem’s Medicare Advantage health maintenance organization (HMO) and preferred provider organization (PPO) plans as well as its Medicare Select health plans will now have in-network access to the full range of health care services and providers offered by UC Health, the region’s academic health system.
“Anthem is committed to providing our members with access to high-quality care, and the addition of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center to our Medicare provider network exemplifies our unwavering focus on this priority to the members we are so privileged to serve,” said David McNichols, president of Anthem’s Medicare central region. “Our Medicare members can now take advantage of UC Medical Center’s world-renowned physicians and state-of-the-art medical facilities on an in-network basis to address their health care needs.”
With the addition of UC Medical Center, members of Anthem’s Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO as well as Medicare Select plans will be able to seek in-network care at almost all health systems in the Cincinnati area. Anthem’s Medicare Advantage and Select plans are for individuals 65 years of age and older as well as individuals with certain disabilities.
Other UC Health facilities, including West Chester Hospital and the Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care, and UC Health Physicians, already belong to the Medicare Advantage and Select networks. The addition of UC Medical Center gives more patients in-network access to the full range of health care services and providers offered by UC Health.
“We are pleased to partner with Anthem to expand access to the advanced specialty and sub-specialty care provided by UC Health,” said Timothy Maloney, vice president of payor relations for UC Health. “As the region’s academic health system, we provide advanced medical care, research-driven innovation, and the highest standard of patient care, all driven by the power of academic medicine.”
