Alion Expands Technology and Innovation Leadership

Team to Help Defense Clients Maximize Readiness and Military Superiority

WASHINGTON--()--As modern warfare evolves and threats continue to shift, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) must maintain warfighting dominance, despite ongoing budget pressures. Alion Science and Technology today announced the expansion of its leadership team to include the new role of Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and a new hire for the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO), part of the company’s continuing commitment to help the DoD achieve mission advantage through technology and innovation.

“We’re facing new enemies and new technologies, all on a highly visible global stage that permeates the battlefield, creating new risks for America’s warfighters along the way,” says Alion CEO, Steve Schorer. “These leadership actions are part of our strategy to maximize capabilities and give the U.S. an edge at the point of need.”

With decades of experience in the government, innovation, and technology arenas, these leaders will help identify and drive Alion initiatives aimed at addressing DoD needs through groundbreaking products and solutions:

  • Todd Borkey joins as CTO and will be responsible for defining the company’s technology roadmap and managing the relationships and operations to make that roadmap a reality. He comes to Alion from Thales Defense & Security, Inc., where he was CTO and Vice President of Systems Solutions, responsible for identifying areas of expansion and extending the company’s reach in key markets. He has extensive experience in general management, programs, and business development, gained through various leadership roles at DRS Defense Solutions, Inc., Northrop Grumman Corporation, and other highly respected firms. Based in Maryland, Todd holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from the Stevens Institute of Technology and an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics.
  • Moving into the role of CSO, Christopher Zember will be responsible for corporate strategy, with a particular emphasis on advanced technology and engineering solutions. Continuing his work already begun at the company, he brings extensive experience within the DoD and a unique perspective on the technology needs of the military service to this new role. Through his passion for innovation, he gained recognition in his previous position as Director of the Center for Technology and National Security Policy at National Defense University before joining Alion as CTO in October of last year. He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from American University and is frequently asked to speak on topics including national security, technology, innovation, and defense acquisition.

This leadership expansion is part of Alion’s people-enabled strategy, which targets top-tier functional and domain experts for maximum insight into client challenges and untapped solutions.
