CLEARWATER, Fla.--()--The Center for Cyber Safety and Education announced it has selected JPMorgan Chase as its 2017 Partner of the Year for making online safety awareness a cornerstone of its volunteerism efforts. By institutionalizing Safe and Secure Online, a program that helps adults and children have a safe and positive online experience, JPMorgan Chase has helped thousands of people around the world protect themselves online.

Rohan Amin, JPMorgan Chase chief information security officer, said, “We’re honored to receive this award and proud to partner with the Center to help people learn how to be safe online. Cybersecurity is a top priority for us at the bank, and we continue to reinforce the idea that cybersecurity is everyone’s job. In addition to our employees, we educate our customers and clients on how to protect their assets and businesses from cyber threats. We’re thrilled to be able to share our knowledge with children and their parents in our broader community.”

Safe and Secure Online offers online safety education materials for children, parents, educators, and senior citizens. The children’s materials feature Garfield and friends in cartoons and comic books tackling different cyber safety issues, including privacy, the dangers of posting online, online etiquette, cyberbullying, and more.

In 2016, Satish Jayaprakash, CISSP and JPMorgan Chase vice president of cyber security and a Safe and Secure Online volunteer, recognized that Safe and Secure Online was a natural extension of the company’s Technology for Social Good program, which provides opportunities for JPMorgan Chase employees to use their technology expertise to give back to their communities. Recognizing the company’s global cybersecurity staff as an untapped resource to teach online safety awareness, he mobilized the cybersecurity team to deliver Safe and Secure Online to students and parents in their communities in less than a year. To date, JPMorgan Chase staff have taught 4,000 parents and children in the US, EMEA and APAC how to protect themselves online.

“Safe and Secure Online aligns perfectly with our existing community outreach programs and goals,” Jayaprakash commented. “By leveraging the Center’s engaging materials, including their very creative use of Garfield, our established framework and the unrelenting support from executive management, we’re able to give employees terrific opportunities to give back to their communities and help their neighbors be more cyber aware and cyber safe.”

JPMorgan Chase plans to expand the program to include high school students and, working with the Center, to develop new middle school materials.

Patrick Craven, Center director, noted, “JPMorgan Chase’s commitment to education has made it possible for us to reach more young people with our shared vision. Through this award, we celebrate JPMorgan Chase for their passion and commitment to giving back to communities and making the cyber world a safer place.”
