BankUnited Commits to Hurricane Recovery Efforts in Florida

Initiatives include a $100,000 donation

MIAMI LAKES, Fla.--()--Miami Lakes, Fla. based BankUnited announced today that it is committed to helping Florida recover from the effects of Hurricane Irma with a $100,000 donation to organizations which can immediately deploy needed resources to targeted affected areas and populations as well as initiatives aimed at offering relief to customers, employees and other state residents.

“While we are extremely thankful that the loss of life was limited, we know that Hurricane Irma is causing terrible hardship among many across Florida,” said Rajinder P. Singh, President and CEO. “Irma took aim at the entire state yet different regions will require tailored responses. BankUnited will be supporting various causes at a local level to help those directly impacted by this unprecedented storm. It is predicted to be a long recovery and we are committed to stand with our communities.”

BankUnited employees will be actively involved in Irma relief efforts as well. Through its footprint of 90 banking centers across Florida, BankUnited will be collecting goods for distribution on behalf of the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. BankUnited employees will also be able to take part in an initiative in which they can donate money for hurricane relief. “I am extremely proud of the way our employees remain dedicated to our customers even though they and their loved ones were also in harm’s way,” said Singh.

BankUnited has also established parameters to provide relief to impacted retail and small business customers. BankUnited will be waiving or refunding specified fees incurred from September 10, 2017 through September 30, 2017. Similarly, the bank will waive or refund late charges incurred on loans during that time frame for residential mortgage customers located in a FEMA-declared disaster area that were impacted by Hurricane Irma.
