Hepatitis C: Another “Child” of the Drug Industry, Says Ohio’s Yes on Issue 2 Campaign

COLUMBUS, Ohio--()--PhRMA’s own opioid drug makers, like Purdue, Teva and Johnson & Johnson, now have more blood on their hands. Because of the opioid and heroin epidemic these drug companies fueled, the U.S. now has a growing hepatitis C epidemic, shared dirty needles being a prime vehicle for spreading this disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates the U.S. had 34,000 new cases of hepatitis C in 2015, triple the numbers from 2010. Hepatitis C killed 20,000 Americans last year, making it the nation’s most deadly disease.

Background on Ohio Ballot Issue 2

The Yes on Issue 2 campaign is a broad-based, bi-partisan coalition. More than 200,000 Ohio voters signed petitions to put an amendment on the ballot in November that will lower drug prices for over 4 million Ohioans, including 164,000 children, save taxpayers $400 million annually, reduce healthcare costs for everyone and teach greedy drug companies and their CEOs a lesson.
