Walgreens and the United Nations Foundation Kick Off Fifth Year of the Get a Shot. Give a Shot.® Campaign, More Than 20 Million Lifesaving Vaccines Donated

Flu Shots Now Available at All Walgreens and Duane Reade Pharmacies and Walgreens Healthcare Clinics Nationwide

DEERFIELD, Ill.--()--Walgreens and the United Nations Foundation are proud to kick off the fifth year of the Get a Shot. Give a Shot. campaign. Thanks to the support of Walgreens customers, the campaign has helped to provide more than 20 million polio and measles vaccines to people in developing countries.

Now through August 31, 2018, for every vaccination administered at Walgreens pharmacies, Healthcare Clinics, or Duane Reade pharmacies, Walgreens will donate the value of a lifesaving vaccine through the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign.

“We are thrilled to be heading into our fifth year of partnership with Walgreens and the Get a Shot. Give a Shot program,” said Kathy Calvin, president and CEO of the United Nations Foundation. “Families everywhere deserve the opportunity to keep their children safe from preventable diseases like measles and polio, and thanks to this program, Walgreens customers can help support the Shot@Life campaign and ensure every child has a shot at a healthy life.”

Shot@Life is a movement to protect children worldwide by providing lifesaving vaccines where they are most needed through the UN and other partners. The Shot@Life campaign collaborates with many organizations and corporations to broaden American support for childhood immunizations in developing countries against diseases like pneumonia, diarrhea, measles and polio.

Summer is almost over. Kids are back in school. And that means flu season is not far behind. It’s never too early to be thinking about flu prevention, starting with an annual flu shot, which is now available at all Walgreens and Duane Reade pharmacies, as well as Walgreens Healthcare Clinic locations.

Flu shots are available during all pharmacy and clinic hours while an immunizing health professional is on duty, including evenings, overnights at 24-hour pharmacy locations, weekends and holidays1, and no appointment is necessary. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual flu shot for everyone over six months of age.

“Each flu season is unpredictable, which is why a flu shot is the most important preventive measure to take to protect yourself and those around you throughout the flu season,” said Richard Ashworth, Walgreens president of pharmacy and retail operations.

The flu vaccine is covered under Medicare Part B as well as all health insurance plans, although provider networks may vary. Age restrictions vary by state at Walgreens pharmacies, while Healthcare Clinics can provide vaccinations for patients age 2 and older.
