Wisconsin Virtual Academy to Kick Off 2017-2018 School Year

Online Students Explore In-Demand Career Options in High School

MCFARLAND, Wis.--()--Students at Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA) will power up their computers and head back to the virtual classroom on Tuesday, Sept. 5th. An online public charter school authorized by McFarland School District for students in grades K-12, WIVA provides a high-quality, tuition-free education option for families across the state.

“At WIVA, our goal is to maximize the potential of each student,” says head of school Nicholaus Sutherland.

Characterized by a personalized approach to learning, WIVA provides students with opportunities to learn that meet their needs, talents and interests. Students tackle a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, English/language arts and history. Lessons are integrated across the curriculum, so students may apply what they are learning in one class to the lessons they encounter in another. Live, online classes are facilitated by Wisconsin-licensed teachers, and students connect with their peers during these live Class Connect sessions.

Students actively engage with WIVA’s rigorous curriculum. Advanced learners can move quickly through lessons and take on leadership opportunities during class, while those who struggle can get additional support from their teachers through regular emails, phone calls and one-to-one online meetings.

Additionally, high school students can begin to explore college and career options through profession-focused courses. Classes such as culinary arts, marketing, finance and more provide a valuable introduction to in-demand career paths of interest.

Outside of class time, students participate in a variety of extracurricular clubs and activities, and meet in-person at teacher-led and school-sponsored events, field trips and social gatherings.

WIVA is still accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year. For information on enrollment, visit http://wiva.k12.com/how-enroll.html. To connect with school staff at an upcoming online information session, visit http://wiva.k12.com/events-calendar.html.
